Excellent Mar 3, 2010
I recieved it within days of ordering it which is great considering I live on the other side of the world almost. There was no damage to the book and it was well worth buying. Thankyou very much for the service. Danni
a nice sized portable bible at a good price! Oct 24, 2009
with all the controversy over this translation i had overlooked it for years being content with the new living translation. i never really was sold on the niv and figured this would be just along the same lines. so why bother. well i had visited john armstrong's blog and he had posted some good info on the tniv that prompted me to take a look at this version and i am glad i did. the tniv falls between a formal word-for-word translation and a dynamic thought-for-thought translation that seeks to be gender-accurate rather than gender-inclusive. the tniv basically is a update of the niv that made changes to about 7% of the niv text with only one third being related to gender. but there was hundreds of changes made in the text to " enchance the exegetical accuracy" that makes this translation more appealing to me than the niv. see The Complete Guide to Bible Translations: *How They Were Developed *Understanding Their Differences *Finding the Right One for You from ron rhodes for more info on this and other translations. in fact linguistic scholar craig blomberg has documented verses showing where he feels the tniv is more exegetically accurate than the niv. go to [...] and see "today's new international version: the untold story of a good translation." it's always good to compare translations to get the full meaning and understanding of the text. the scriptures themselves make the best commantary you can get. so for the price and the offers on this site(super saver shipping,4 for 3 promo) this is well worth adding to ones bible collection. especially now that the tniv is going to be discontinued to make room for the newly revised niv which is set to come out in 2011. evidently with all the misunderstanding and controversy over the tniv the sales were not what they were looking for!
