NASB Study Bible, Zondervan. Mar 26, 2007
Sooner or later, any serious student of the Bible will want to be able to examine more than one translation. At a minimum, one will want a version that has been translated in what is considered the most "literal" manner, using the "word for word" approach, and another that has been translated utilizing the "thought for thought" (or "sense for sense") approach. There will be merit in comparing both types and some homework before making purchases is a very good idea. It is widely considered that the NASB is the most 'literal' English language Bible available, at this writing, but the ESV is highly regarded and the NKJV is also quite literal, though less so than the NASB and the ESV. The most popular "thought for thought" translation (at least among Protestants) is the NIV. Having used the NIV, and secondarily the NKJV, for several years, I recently decided to purchase the Zondervan NASB Study Bible, and have immediately been very happy with it.
At the time I purchased the Z[NASB]SB, I was involved in studies of Genesis and Hebrews. Studies of theses books are quite theologically foundational. Hebrews is the most purely theological of NT books (teaching, for example, creation ex nihilo), and Genesis, though its language is often anthropomorphic, mysterious, and figurative, is one of the great theological books of the OT (the wisdom writings, particularly Job, Psalms, and Ecclesiastes, are the most purely theological of the Bible). The connections that Hebrews makes with Genesis are very important to Christological studies and a good study Bible should not fail to highlight and amplify these connections. Would the Zondervan NASB Study Bible adequately explain the mysterious (almost Gandalf-like) Melchizedek account of Genesis 14 in terms of its reappearance in Psalm 110, and particularly as these accounts are focused on Christ in Hebrews 7? The center column cross-references and margin notes in Hebrews indeed made the connections and provided brief but excellent commentary. The big picture was brought into view; a curious and attentive reader would easily be equipped to make the important connections. My NASB Study Bible had passed its first test with honors.
Being generally quite happy with the ZNASBSB, I hesitate to offer any negative comments or questionings, but there is always room for improvement when translating the Bible (so long as humans are translating for humans, this will continue to be the case). Zondervan has recycled their study notes from their NIV Study Bible, only changing the translation wording as is necessary, the notes are otherwise the same. There is not necessarily anything wrong with this, but the buyer might be aware of this when comparing this Bible to, say, and ESV study Bible.

The best Bible for the price! Nov 9, 2006
I prefer the NASB for study, and this is the best study Bible for the price I have found. I have been giving this Bible to new members in our church and they have really enjoyed having commentary and other info they can understand.
Content perfect; package could be better.... Mar 22, 2006
Zondervan has done a terrific job with this edition of the NASB. The study notes and supplements are truly top-notch. This if particularly important since the NASB, while the most accurate translation in the English language, is somewhat difficult to understand. The only downside is the cheap, substandard paper used to print this edition. Because of its semi-transparency, extended reading is difficult and tiresome.
