Inspiring and emotional Jul 22, 2007
Rav Teichtal grew up an ultra-orthodox anti zionist in 1900's Hungary. He tragicly ended his life at the hands of the Nazi's horror. Before his death, his opinions on settling the land of Israel under went a dramatic u-turn, and this book (written in hiding from the Nazi's) details his religious arguments for settling the land.
Imaculately argued and sourced from the breadth of traditional Jewish literature, he argues that the coming of the messiah will be preluded by the ingathering of the Jewish people to their promised land, and the rebuilding of the country. The ingathering will be spearheaded by irreligious Jews. Yet the author argues that it is obligatory for the religious community to make the spiritual and physical quest to move to Israel themselves, thereby fulfilling God's command and hastening the messianic era.
Written with wisdom and emotion, this great work has inspired many, and moved me immeasurably
