Item description for The Bible Jesus Read Leader's Guide by Philip Yancey...
Overview The Old Testament is God's biography, the story of his passionate encounters with people and also a prequel to the story of Jesus. This Zondervan Groupware uses video and group discussion to explore the sometimes shocking and cryptic writings in an effort to know God better.
Publishers Description Award-winning author Philip Yancey serves as guide and interpretive leader of ten video study sessions. In a series of in-depth interviews and explanations he covers five crucial segments of the Old Testament: 1. Job: Seeing in the Dark 2. Deuteronomy: A Taste of Bittersweet 3. Psalms: Spirituality in Every Key 4. Ecclesiastes: The End of Wisdom 5. The Prophets: God Talks Back Philip approaches each of these major segments from a different point of view--from the paradoxes of Ecclesiastes to the poetry of the Psalms--and adds additional interpretive material extending the reach of his best-selling book. He teams again with the Emmy Award-winning production team responsible for video production of the "What's So Amazing About Grace?" Zondervan Groupware. Many Christians tend to ignore the Old Testament or dismiss it as impenetrable and obscure. Philip Yancey's combination of scholarship and insight brings new light to old material and stimulates new discussion, thought, and further study.

The Bible Jesus Read May 15, 2010
I received my order in a couple of days after placing my order. The book was used but in good condition. The price was reasonable. I was satisfied with my order.
A Simple Look at the Old Testament Dec 11, 2009
The Bible Jesus Read is a book that I picked up 2.5 years ago, and its purpose is to help us make more sense of the Old Testament. I sometimes struggle reading through portions of the Old Testament so I thought Yancey could help me better appreciate some of those confusing books of history and prophecy. I did not enjoy this book as much as some of his other books, but I have always benefited from sitting down with a Yancey book. "The more we comprehend the Old Testament," Yancey writes, "the more we comprehend Jesus." The Bible Jesus Read was named the top Christian Living book of 1999.
Although I have read a number of Yancey's books, today I tend to select books of a more academic nature.
We Forget Jesus's Bible Was Not the New Testament Jun 20, 2009
It is important that we realize that Jesus used, what we call, the Old Testament as His Scripture, not the New, since it had not been written yet. It shows that a good understanding of the OT is essential to a full understanding of the new. I recommend it to any serious Christian.
Great book! Oct 24, 2008
Yancey does a great job exploring the Old Testament and showing it relevance to our lives today.
