Reviews - What do customers think about Meet the Bible?
Fascinating guided tour. Highly recommended. May 5, 2006
This devotional is a terriffic, fresh approach to reading through the Bible in an overview or summary format. Each day's reading (using a modern translation) is accompanied by brief and informative text from Brenda Quinn or Philip Yancey, and then 1 or 2 questions to ponder. Both Quinn and Yancey have a reader-friendly, intelligent manner of writing that invites one to think rather than telling one what to think. Makes a nice gift book, too.
bonding experience for me and my husband Jan 30, 2006
I bought this book as a NY resolution and LOVE it. My husband and I read from it before we go to bed and on long road trips stemming deep conversations. We feel exhilarated, educated, and much more. Regardless of personal beliefs, this book explains the Bible in our generation's terms, meaning a churchless many (including myself). This book makes it fun and easy to learn about the Bible.
Truly Inspired Apr 23, 2005
This wonderful book of inspiration, reflection, and key scripture from each book of the Bible; Genesis to Revelation, has been comforting to me. From beginning to end this marvelous book is enlightening and exciting reading. The gifted authors have produced a much needed companion to the Bible.
Each book of the Bible becomes crystal clear. I also recommend Walking The Bible (yes literally walking thru the Bible lands) by Bruce Feiler.
Meet The Bible is a devotional book, yet it is immediately so instructive you will, as I did during a recent illness, just keep reading thru to the finish. I am buying several to share with family and friends. What a masterpiece, in my opinion.
I read the paperback edition, wished it were a leatherbound edition, and appreciated every one of the 686 pages, however, the last few books of the New Testament were shorter, especially Revelation, almost as if the writers were hurrying along. I wanted to read and learn more! There is nothing dull about the Bible now; after you read this book, or read it along with a book of the Bible, you will obtain a completely different perspective as you contemplate the "whole picture"!
I loved every moment reading this book and gaining knowledge of human nature as pictured in the book of books, the Holy Bible.
A great summary of the bible Sep 13, 2001
If you tried to read the bible (like me) and couldn't (like me) because it doesn't make sense and you don't know what you're reading half the time then read this book. it tells the entire story of the bible in a language that you and I can understand. It basically summarizes everything in the bible so you only get what's important. So if you want to read the bible but don't want to READ the bible then this is the book for you. It contains 365 segments each of which is 1-3 pgs. but i just read it staight through in a couple months.
A reworking and expansion of a leaner book Jun 19, 2001
If you can find the earlier Philip Yancey book, A Guided Tour of the Bible, get it. It includes six months of daily readings. This newer book simply takes that slim-but-elegant volume and interweaves six more months of readings from Brenda Quinn. It reaches serviceable result, but the briefer introduction sufficed.
