A League of Heroes From Popular Literature Jun 14, 2008
From the folks at Black Coat's Press comes French science fiction author Xavier Maumejean's 1998 first entry in an entertaining meta fiction series, The League of Heroes (adapted and translated by Manuella Chevalier). It's the story of Lord Kraven, personally chosen by Phileas Fogg (Jules Verne's Around the World in Eighty Days) to lead his League of Heroes consisting of Sherlock Holmes, Lord Greystoke (Tarzan), and lesser knowns against an array of super villains led by a psychotic Peter Pan whose Neverland has spilled over into our world. This tale in the mode of George Macdonald Fraser's Flashman novels and Alan Moore's graphic novel series The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is a charming mix of swashbuckling adventure, high concept, and wit sure to appeal to those wanting a post modern glimpse at classic heroes from the past and a high romp through an entertaining alternate reality where heroes and villains are real. Here's hoping the folks at Black Coat's Press have more of Maumejean's novels scheduled for the future.
