Item description for The Way of the Child, Family Booklet: Helping Children Experience God (Companions in Christ) by Wynn McGregor...
Overview Meeting the needs of children's spirituality, Way of the Child, provides a contemplative and formulaic approach to providing resources that both teach the Bible and the basics of faith. In a world where we are always rushing to get from one place to another, Way of the Child offers a calming, centering, meditation style, which deepens a child's connection to God. What is The Way of the Child? What is spiritual formation? What happens during the sessions? What can I do to support the study? How can our family - together - share our faith in practical ways? Church provides important training, but within everyday family life is where we really learn about trust, acceptance, respect and forgiveness. Incorporate the practical ideas from The Way of the Child Family Booklet to support and cultivate your child's spirituality - yes, even amidst the most busy family life. "Children are spiritual beings who come to us as gifts from God," writes McGregor. "The child's natural way of life and the way most of us live seem to be two different orders of reality. Yet the way of the child represents much of what we consider central to authentic Christian spirituality." Reclaim the "way of the child" while nurturing and deepening your family's relationship with God. Every family with a child in The Way of the Child program needs a copy of The Family Booklet.

Respect for the Spirituality of the Child Feb 27, 2008
This resouce is an amazing tool for enabling and encouraging the child's spiritual formation, allowing them experiences to grow in their sense and understanding of who God is and who they are in relationship to God and God's world. I am using this resource with 1st - 5th graders in our mid-week program. The church I serve as Director of Christian Education has a great respect for deep spiritual/faith formation of everyone and this is the perfect tool. The children are better able to focus on what they are experiencing in the moment and leave with a sense of internal peacefulness they did not have with the program we were using previously. The pace is slow and reflective. The most wiggly children actually spend the most time in the quietest, most reflective stations! The children are excited to come each week and invite their friends. I hear groans of disappointment when it is time to prepare to leave. The Way of the Child is helping to develop a lifelong understanding and practice of deep quiet time with God for the purpose of just being with God and listening for what God might have to say to you. Thank you Wynn McGregor and Upper Rooms for your tremendous insight and understanding of the Spiritual potential of the child and doing something about it! Thank you for the accompanying Family Guide that helps parents understand their child's spiritual potential, as well. I want more!!
