I gave up on this one after the first chapter. Theorems are presented with insufficient proof, with the author citing results which do not actually lead to the conclusions he states. Some of the deeper results are stated without explanation, with the author urging the reader to figure it out. Trivial results are expounded upon verbosely, on the other hand. (Exactly, what does the author think is the point of a text book?) Furthermore, the exposition is incredibly confusing, with the author using, for example, = to mean "the same element" as well as "members of a specific equivalence class," without being clear about the definition. I knew maybe I should be worried when I noticed that the author was born in 1929, and yet this book was published in 1995.
