More About Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791), was a prolific and influential composer of the Classical era. He composed over 600 works, many acknowledged as pinnacles of symphonic, concertante, chamber, piano, operatic, and choral music. He is among the most enduringly popular of classical composers. Mozart showed prodigious ability from his earliest childhood in Salzburg. Already competent on keyboard and violin, he composed from the age of five and performed before European royalty. At 17, he was engaged as a court musician in Salzburg, but grew restless and travelled in search of a better position, always composing abundantly. While visiting Vienna in 1781, he was dismissed from his Salzburg position. He chose to stay in the capital, where he achieved fame but little financial security. During his final years in Vienna, he composed many of his best-known symphonies, concertos, and operas, and portions of the Requiem, which was largely unfinished at the time of Mozart's death. The circumstances of his early death have been much mythologized. He was survived by his wife Constanze and two sons. Mozart learned voraciously from others, and developed a brilliance and maturity of style that encompassed the light and graceful along with the dark and passionate. His influence on subsequent Western art music is profound. Beethoven wrote his own early compositions in the shadow of Mozart, of whom Joseph Haydn wrote that "posterity will not see such a talent again in 100 years."

Wide Variety of Music! Apr 3, 2008
This is my new favorite music book as it includes such a wide variety of music. The composers included are both well-known and lesser known. There is much to choose from:
Mozart, Grieg, Verdi, Massenet, Godard, Gounod, Godard, Wagner, Cui, Tchiakovsky, Liszt, Ponchielli, Gottschalk, Schubert, Lange, Chopin, Beethoven, Haydn, Bizet, Handel, Schuman, Dvorak, Brahms, Csibulka, Rubinstien, Boccherini, Saint-Saens, Field, Strauss, Yradier, Delibes, Gautier, Debussy, Donizetti, Thome, Mendelssohn, Rameau, Scarlatti, Wagner. The piece I've been especially playing lately is Offenbach's Barcarolle. And, I have this piece in several other books-- this is, by far, the best version I've seen. Unlike Tales of Hoffman, many other pieces included in the book were composed specifically for the piano and, although they may be excerpts of longer pieces, they are edited well and are included exactly as the composers wrote them.
Although there are a few easier pieces included, the difficulty level is mostly advanced intermediate to expert (and beyond what I can play well).
All of these pieces are also available free from various websites, but the arrangements here are superb. Part of the fun of getting a book such as this is the introduction to pieces you might not have known before. And, as this book includes over 140 selections, there is likely to be something new in here for everyone.
Great and Amazing Book Feb 4, 2006
This book is perfect to intrduce any beginning pianist so that he or she can dscover the great works by Mozart. This book includes selections from the great symphonies, operas, piano concertos, and the best of the sonatas (my favorite being Rondo Alla Turca!). The pieces range from intermediate to really advanced. These piece's complexity (along with Easy Classics for Moderns by Denes Agay) will surely heighten any pianist's skills at the keyboard. The best of the classical era is presented in this introductory book.
