Item description for Our Father Abraham: Jewish Roots of the Christian Faith by Marvin R. Wilson...

Overview
Although the roots of Christianity run deep into Hebrew soil, many Christians are regrettably uninformed about the rich Hebrew heritage of the church. This volume delineates the link between Judaism and Christianity, between the Old and the New Testament, and calls Christians to reexamine their Hebrew roots so as to effect a more authentically biblical lifestyle.

As an introduction to the world of Hebrew thought, Our Father Abraham is biblical, historical, and cultural in nature. At the same time, the writing is personal and passionate, reflecting Marvin Wilson?s own spiritual pilgrimage and his extensive dialogue with Jews. The book (1) develops a historical perspective on the Jewish origins of the church, (2) sets forth the importance and nature of Hebrew thought, (3) discusses how the church can become more attuned to the Hebraic mind-set of Scripture, and (4) offers practical suggestions for interaction between Jews and Christians.

The study questions at the end of each chapter enhance the book?s usefulness as a text and also make it suitable for Bible-study and discussion groups. All Christians?and Jews too?will profit from Wilson?s sensible treatments of biblical texts, his thorough understanding of both the Christian and the Jewish faith, and his honest historical analysis of the general failure of the Christian church to acknowledge and understand its relation to Judaism.

Reviews - What do customers think about Our Father Abraham?

Indespensable for Christians and Jews  Feb 5, 2007
Having studied under Dr. Wilson at Gordon College I can recommend this book without any reservations. No teacher has had a more positive effect on my life and personal development. If you want to know about the roots of Christianity, this book is for you.

Good Title But......  Jan 3, 2007
I love the concept of the book however the language is very lofty for the lay person. It is written in text book language.

Warning: This book will change your life!  Dec 2, 2006
What best review can I give for a book that just changed my whole life? I think the best I can do is to honestly warn other readers about this power: "Watch out! This book will change your life!" But this will only happen if you read it honestly, with a true desire to acknowledge the title: "Our Father Abraham". Dr. Marvin Wilson, simply and powerfully, explains what Christians have lost since departing from the Jews. And, of course, what Jews might benefit from the Christian experience. Have you ever watched "A Fiddler on The Roof"? Well, I hadn't, until I read this book. Now it's one of my favorite movies, because I know what's behind it! In short, if you really want to understand the Hebraic roots of your faith, don't start anywhere else. Buy it right now! And recommend it to as many of your dears as possible. But warn them: "Watch out! This book will change your life!"

The Semite people are our friends  Nov 30, 2006
This book finally reveals and understands the in-depth relationship of Christianity and its roots. There are millions of people that have lived before Christ was on Earth but they believed in the same God. You will see them in heaven although they have never met Jesus personally while on Earth since Jesus was born after they died.

A MUST READ for anyone seeking the Jewish Roots of their Faith  Nov 10, 2006
Marvin Wilson has truly written a Classic in the field of the Jewish Roots of Christianity. This book will fill the beginner hungering to understand his/her spiritual heritage. It will also enlighten those already seasoned in this field by bringing a competely unique perspective on the topic.
I've been immersing myself in the Jewish Roots revelation for 6 years now, and this amazing book brought an insight I hadn't read in all my years of research.
Again, this is a MUST READ!!
