Reviews - What do customers think about Russian Wife: Your Greatest Blessing or Your Biggest Mistake??
Did I buy this? Aug 25, 2008
What the heck was I thinking? There are exceptions to everything. However, cultural differences can destroy a marriage and in Russia people are expected to steal and scheme just to survive; that's why when most come here they continue to do so; typically on a grander scale.
Waste of time... Jul 20, 2008
This is probably the biggest waste of time and money you could have for $8.50. I bought the book used, and now I can see why this is not a keeper. I wish I had read the other reviews of how poor this book was. I gave it one star because I feel that writing can be difficult and I want to congradulate the authors on getting a book published. However, the material they wrote about was very one sided and needed alot more research. The book is incredibly short and very strangely written. Apparently, the wife who wrote most of the book by the way almost seems to discourage dating/marrying a Russian. The guy author parts are usually a page and almost always agree with the wife's 8-10 pages of diatribe. Which I found interesting that he never gives the reason why he was looking for a Russian bride in the first place. He also doesn't go into any detail about any other possible prospects of other women in Russia. He just went for the one, who he found and married.
With the other reviews, this book pretty much said you need to pray for a Russian wife and pray with her everyday. I am not saying praying is bad, but sometimes, I am sure god wants you to do things for yourself.
Russian WIfe: Your Greatest Blessing or Your Biggest Mistake Feb 2, 2007
It was not the biggest, nonetheless, a mistake in buying this book. I am sending it back not bacause of 8 bucks, but to make a point.
It is a very trivial and quite hostile writing ;seems like it is aimed to put down other women (or frogs, as a female co-author calls them). In a view that co-author is "e-mail bride" herself, it is very strange to see such aggression towards her Russian female compatriots. Besides, the insights into the Russian culture are quite shallow and trite.
In summery, this book was a waist of time and money.
Interesting information Jan 3, 2007
Found the information most interesting but not what I was expecting. Seeking more on a particular area and their living more than one persons perspective.
Russian Wife: Your Greatest Blessing Or Your Biggest Mistake? Jul 9, 2006
Looking at a website that offers beautiful Russian women eager to marry a westerner? Are you a Christian. You need to read this book if you are still looking.
I'm a Widower. I'm 61. I'd like another wife but am not infatuated with what seems to be left for me to choose from. I went and looked at one of those sites, actually several. The women all list under religion "Christian." As a "born again" Christian I was puzzeled as how that could be since Russia was a pagan country that denied religion for almost 100 years.
Well I started corresponding with some of the women but my first three letters were very heavy into my religious beliefs and questions about theirs. After three letters I didn't get anymore from any of them. One replied and asked if I was a monk. My friends all thought that was very funny.
I made up my mind that these sites were not where a Christian was suppose to be unless one choose to ignore the requirement that we cannot be "unequally yoked."
This book is written by a man and wife that did make it. She is from Russia and he is a westerner, but what made it happen was both of their strong religious beliefs.
It's funny, a quick read, and informative. It addresses all the common notions of what is "believed" about Russian and FSU woman from both points of view which I find unique. I reached the same conclusion they did, but it was nice to see it from someone else. I will never weaken and go back there. I will wait on God's choice, if there is one.
If you're thinking about this and you are a Christian read this book!
