Item description for How to Trap And Snare: A Complete Manual For The Sportsman, Game Preserver And Amateur On The Art Of Taking Animals And Birds In Traps, Snares and Nets With Numerous Illustrations by William Carnegie...
This manual is intended to provide as much practical insight into the various modes of trapping, snaring, and netting the animals and birds of the British Isles as can be furnished by writing. Whenever possible and desirable, such insight is given of the haunts and habitats of the creatures to be caught as may prove useful to the amateur or tyro, for whom it is more particularly planned, than for the professional. Every piece of work, device, trap, snare, or net described has been performed, employed, or made by the author, and it is hoped that the experience gained during many years may prove of advantage to others who may be induced to follow the Art of the Trapper, either for pastime or profit" William Carnegie, 1880. Reviews - What do customers think about How to Trap And Snare: A Complete Manual For The Sportsman, Game Preserver And Amateur On The Art Of Taking Animals And Birds In Traps, Snares and Nets With Numerous Illustrations?
Older than the woods. Dec 6, 2005
When I ordered this book, I expected something new and up-to-date with great illustrations of types of traps and methods of doing things. Little did I suspect that what I would receive would be a book published in 1895 with one of the main focuses being on a trap-type that is currently illegal where I live: the steel-jawed trap. Also, there was not much depth or illustration given to the real intent of my purchase: snares and snaring. I guess it really is true: there is nothing new under the sun, and my expectation of new methods was unfounded precisely because there ARE no new methods for trapping. If you're looking for detailed explanations of things you can do to take game (and which might still be legal) look elsewhere!
