Item description for The Covenant Divorce Recovery Student Workbook by Wade A. Powers...
Overview This curriculum treats divorce like a death without a funeral that forces a person to come to grips with the denial, anger, and guilt that modern divorce dishes out.
Publishers Description The Covenant Divorce Recovery Leader's Handbook and accompanying workbook for students are viable tools that help Christians going through the turmoil of divorce. The curriculum treats divorce like a death without a funeral that forces a person to come to grips with the denial, anger and guilt that modern divorce dishes out. We also take a hard look at Old Testament and New Testament divorce and attempt to develop a theology that focuses on the forgiveness of sin. The book is an epiphany for many and a valuable tool in righting one's relationships with God and others. Wade Powers began writing poetry and short stories in the third grade and his love for the written word continued into retirement. A graduate of Cal State University Bakersfield and a retired federal employee, Wade now has turned to writing full-time. After writing two novels and a book of poetry, he decided to create a handbook and curriculum aimed at starting divorce support groups for Christians. Along with his wife, Annie, they have ministered to hundreds of divorced Christians in various evangelical churches. The Covenant Divorce Recovery Leader's Handbook and accompanying workbook are tools which enable groups to start up quickly and at minimum expense. Wade and Annie live in Port Angeles, Washington with their two very spoiled toy poodles named Kiki and Jett. The couple have five adult children. Wade's website is www.yellowriter.com

Reviews - What do customers think about The Covenant Divorce Recovery Student Workbook?
Probably a little prejudiced, but here goes... Nov 2, 2009
I realize that I am biased because I wrote this book and the adjoining handbook. The Covenant Divorce Recovery Leader's Handbook is the main book for starting a group and navigating at a individual pace. The workbook is a small publication that students use to fill in the blanks as the leader guides them through the lessons, providing the answers along the way. These are a labor of love in the form of tangible help for those suffering from the stress of a disintegrating relationship/marriage. I say "relationship" as well because these books have tools to improve all facets of a person's approach to life. There is nothing out there that makes setting up divorce support groups so easy or inexpensive. If a person wants direction in a self study, he/she can learn about how to handle the denial, anger and bargaining that takes place when a separation or divorce is imminent. Annie (my wife) and I are in our ninth year of leading a group and have taken over 200 students through the 15 week program. We tackle issues of grief, forgiveness, financial planning and goal setting. We delve into communication skills, dating and of course, wrestle with the theology of God's Word (The Bible) on divorce and remarriage. It isn't sugar coated. We tell it like it is and stress forgiveness in Christ as a means of building a new you. You will not see anything this relevant and practical on any bookstore shelf. It isn't a quick fix - it's all about change, healing and growth. The two books (The Covenant Divorce Recovery Leader's Handbook & The Covenant Divorce Recovery Student Workbook) together are necessary to cover the 15 lessons.
