Reviews - What do customers think about Be Good to Eddie Lee?

Great book for Down Syndrome Awareness  Apr 28, 2008
Wonderful book for siblings of a Down Syndrome child as well as peers, friends, relatives to read...great book for Down Syndrome awareness.
Special Needs Book  Dec 15, 2007
This is a very touching book about a child named Eddie Lee who has Down's Syndrome. I would suggest this book to elementary and middle school students wanting to learn more about students with special needs. I used this book for a unit of "Special Needs" and it really moved some of my students emotionally. It stirred up great conversations in the classroom. I highly recommend this book. The illustrations are great!
Heartwarming  Nov 11, 2006
This book is so heartwarming and should be read by anyone who has a person with special needs in their lives.I teach children with moderate disabilities in an elementary school. After a group of 4th graders at our school read Be Good to Eddie Lee, they determined that they wanted to become friends with students in my class. It teaches that empathy is a "heart thing" and the most important character trait to have!
A Positive Review For This Book  Mar 22, 2006
I don't understand why people have negatively reviewed this book. We analyzed this book in my children's lit class, and this was found to be one of the more sensitive books for children with exceptionalities. Eddie is not treated like an infant, and he does not magically acquire friends. One can feel Christy is a good girl who listens to her mother, but succumbs to peer pressure from JimBud who is mean to Eddie. But she sees on her own that Eddie is a nice boy whom she can be friends with. It's a touching story, with an accurate portrayal of someone with a disability who is not a hero, martyr, or a stereotype. It shows an accurate plot of things a person with Down's Syndrome might experience.
I don't understand  Feb 20, 2006
I've read the editorial reviews of this book and the customer reviews and find myself far more in agreement with the editorial reviews. In fact, I'm bewildered by the customer comments of "condescending" and "dark."

I found the story to be very touching and the protagonist to be the more empathically evolved of the three children. Just my two cents.
