Item description for The Other Judas by Vicki Clarke...
Overview Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said "But Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?" John 14:22 (NIV) "The Other Judas" is a fictitious tale about this little known apostle's encounters with Jesus and Judas' decision to follow him. Judas first discovers Jesus through his friend and fellow apostle, James. The story follows Judas through the last two and a half years of Jesus' ministry, death, and resurrection. It focuses particularly on Judas' misconceptions of Jesus as an earthly king and Messiah which change, together with those of his fellow apostles, as they learn from Jesus, especially after his death and resurrection. When Judas becomes an apostle, he accepts a role of "advance man," responsible for arranging the practical details of Jesus' ministry. While the duties are mundane, Judas seeks to serve the man he believes will someday be king of Israel. He befriends Lazareth, Mary and Martha, travels with Judas Iscariot setting up meetings with town dignitaries and deals with personal fears when Jesus asks him and James to return to their home to tell others about their past year on the road. Through all this, Judas develops pride and a desire that Jesus be honored in the communities he visits, including attempting to ensure that he sees "the right people." Judas' eventual conflict with Jesus sets the foundation for the key teachings of godly kingship and kingdom building. The book includes numerous biblical references which link the characters and stories to actual Biblical passages. For example, the passage of the "man with the shriveled hand" is placed in the context of an expanded story woven into Judas' assessment of Jesus. The Biblical references are designed to encourage the reader to return to the Bible to read the actual passage. The book concludes with Jesus' ascension and a picture of heaven rejoicing as Jesus accepts His heavenly, as opposed to earthly, throne.
