Reviews - What do customers think about 100 Church Classics (3 CD)?
Church Classics not as expected Mar 23, 2005
I ordered Church Classics because it was listed with Steven Anderson on my search for piano music played by him. It is not what I expected. It is the music performed by Festival Choir and Hosanna Chorus. No where on the CD's do I find anything by Steven Anderson. What a disappointment. Since I have already opened it expecting piano music, I can't return it. After the fact I read the other review on this and I wish I had read it before I ordered. I am VERY disappointed.
Warning--this CD is not just traditional music Jan 26, 2004
I purchased this CD because I enjoy traditional church music, and the information given on the outside of the package seemed to indicate that it would be this type of music. The songs listed are all "traditional" type songs (Praise to the Lord, the Almighty; O Worship the King; and Holy, Holy, Holy are the first tracks on the cd's). The package says, "Performed by the Festival Choir and Hosanna Chorus", which sounds pretty traditional. The outside of the package has a picture of an old style "stone front" church.
Most of the tracks (71 out of 100) are good tracks, with traditional singing, accompanied by piano, and organ. But 29 of the tracks (almost a third of the music on the set) is set to CCM, with drums and modern singing styles (think your favorite church hymns sung by
They should put some kind of warning on this CD for people like me that don't really like rock music (or music that just sounds like rock music). 29 tracks contained what any sane person would call "Contemporary Christian Music". This is not "Church Classics" in my book.
I feel that I have been deceived into purchasing CCM, when I do not agree with the principles behind worldly music. I think Madacy Entertainment (the publisher of this set) should put some kind of notice on the outside of the packaging so that consumers will not be deceived into thinking that they are getting traditional music, when they are actually getting a mix of traditional and garbage.
If the 29 bad tracks were played and sung like the other 71, I would give this CD five stars, but given the deception and the fact that 29% of the album is no good, I give the set 3 stars.
If you like traditional music, you will like most of this set, but you will need to wade through the muck to find it.
