General intro to some of Israel's birds Sep 1, 2008
Basics: 2004, softcover, 48 pages, 60 color photos of 60 species, no range maps
The brief book is an introductory sampling of 60 of the 500+ birds that can be found in Israel. The focus of the book is to offer the reader a general background on the birds and their natural history. The text discusses migration, feeding behavior, historical accounts, distribution, and habits. This information is general in nature.
Most of the pictures are of good quality and all are in color. The photos capture the birds in a variety of situations, such as in flight, at the nest, wading, or singing.
A sample of birds is offered in each of the five chapters, which represent resident birds, summer visitors, wintering birds, migrants, and vagrants.
This book will be appreciated by the general naturalist or the casual birder who may want to get a brief introduction to some of Israel's birds.
