Template-driven Consulting is a book for managers who have long been searching for a way to cut costs on expensive external business advice. Every day, new stories of companies that have gone belly up or encounter severe financial troubles show up on the front pages of newspapers across the globe. Cost-cutting is again the most pressing issue in organizations- initiating massive layoffs and large-scale reductions in spending on capital goods. Template-driven Consulting (TDC) allows your company to trim down expenses at another source: external consultants. By drawing on the use of templates, TDC at last really brings about the often cited knowledge transfer from consultants to your employees. Applying TDC, your employees are to become your experts, whilst you will see the number of and cost for external consultants decrease tremendously! This book, with its clear structure and hands-on approach, lets you understand the new methodology and will help you in reaping its cost benefits in your company. It provides you all the necessary insights into how consultants are working at your company and how they should be so as not to burn cash by the hour. TDC puts you in the driver's seat and gives you a cutting-edge advantage: empowering your own employees to deliver consulting work usually done by high-priced externals. Template-driven Consulting shows you what you can expect from consultants. Reviews - What do customers think about Template-driven Consulting: How to Slash More Than Half of Your Consulting Costs?
Methods Consulting is leading edge Sep 6, 2005
I cannot follow the thoughts of the first reviewer and it strikes me that obviously the message - as I see it - did not reach this reader.
IT uses templates - this is right - BUT the abstraction of a problem solving process into a situation-specific methodology so far is new. More so this approach enables clients and their employees to overtake the role of external consultants as a know-how transfer from the methods consultant to the employees of a client organization via the templates is taking place - and this is basically the first time real knowlegde transfer is being realized as part of a consulting approach.
Templates are used by consultancies but not as part of an integrated approach in order to develop a method enabling clients to primarily deliver the probelm solving process autonomously.
I consider this book as useful and valide, more so as we applied the TDC approach and were quite successful.
No new idea Jan 18, 2005
1. The author advises the use of templates for process consulting. This is not a new idea in IT. Templates are used both in production and process. Templates of all sizes and shapes are used in writing code, IT project management process, spreadsheet templates for calculations etc. It is mature to an extent where templates are generated without much hoo-ha and contributed for reuse.
2. The book, in an attempt to be overarching, is stretching itself in early stages where it reviews the economy of the world and the industries in 1 broad stroke.
3. The idea of using templates for consulting is not new and is already being practiced in all nooks and corners.
