Great for ministering to people in great need Sep 7, 2006
When our son was diagnosed with leukemia four years ago, my wife was so encouraged by this CD. The song, "Every Heart that is breakin'" was one of her favorites. I got a call last week about a friend who's husband was killed in a car accident. While out ministering to the family (I'm a pastor), my wife dug up this CD and was listening to it. She was weeping as I came home.
I had a chance to play this song for a grieving widow and her response to the song Every Heart that is breakin' was 'That's perfect'. So for pastors or anyone ministering to a grieving widow or widower or a suddenly fatherless child...or similar situation, this CD is worth having in your library.
For anyone in grief or in a difficult situation, I heartily recommend this CD just for the song "Every Heart That is Breakin'".
Of course it has many of her famous songs from the late 70's and early 80's as well and some of them are gems...like Runner or the Warrior is a Child.
I know the Paris family. Twila's parents are great people. Her siblings are wonderful as well. Although I do not know Twila personally, I have to say she is surrounded by so many quality people...and I have always felt her music had a purity and spirituality to it that was rare.
I recommend this CD to everyone.
The First Greatest Hits CD Dec 22, 2005
This cassette was my introduction to Twila Paris when I picked up a $2.99 tape at K-Mart in the fall of 1997. I wore that tape out listening to it so much and got the CD later. So here's the point-by-point review.
"A Heart That Knows You" - gives you the feeling you're about to enter an 'experience' of worship.
"Destiny" - upbeat pop-ish number with a good message.
"How Beautiful" - a definite for Communion song and taken straight (for the most part) out of the pages of the Bible.
"I See You Standing" - pretty good effort.
"Wandering Pilgrim" - something everyone can relate to if you've ever had a bad situation in your life.
"Warrior Is A Child" - probably her best-known song, David Clydesdale did a youth musical with this back in the early 80s.
"Runner" - a song of motivation and encouragement that sounds like the anthem that opens the Olympics - fittingly.
"Holy Is The Lord" - in duple meter, 6/8 time, this up and down the scale use of vowels is good for voice training - oh, and it's primary purpose, praise of God.
"True Friend" - a song about Jesus; very pop-ish and 80s sounding.
"Sweet Victory" - see "True Friend"
"Relase/He Is Exalted" - certainly the best-known Twila written praise hymn, this is like a second call to worship. Excellent intro and performance.
"Do I Trust You" medley - closes with a fitting benediction.
Get it if you ever find it. One of the few genuine five-star Christian releases.
Great album - not longer made. Oct 25, 2003
I bought this in cassette around 1995, looked for it several times in the last few years in CD format, I couldn't find it locally (Michigan). Recently bought "Twila Paris - Greatest Hits: Time & Again", which has many of the same songs, but I miss the ones that are only on Heart That Knows You, "Prince Of Peace" comes to mind.
