Reviews - What do customers think about Sky Blue: A Novel?
This book touched me Dec 18, 2009
This was my first Travis read- was introduced to his work through my book club. I was hooked from the beginning and got more addicted the further I went. Travis tells a wonderful story about finding yourself and what is truly important in life. It came at a time when I was struggling with some of the same issues as his main character and I felt like God put this book in my hands for a reason. I also enjoyed the insights into publishing, as an avid reader it was fun to think about how a book makes it through the process and into my hands. Got a chance to meet Travis at our book club and he is as engaging in person as his writing is. I bought every other one of his books and can't wait to read his most recent- Every Breath You Take- have to buy it directly from him at [...]. Bottom line- read this book- you'll be glad you did!
Book Clubs, Rejoice! Nov 21, 2009
I absolutely could not put this book down. I was hooked in from the start and it is a wild ride throughout. The insight into the publishing world is fascinating, as are Thrasher's characters. Good luck trying to find a good breaking point to put down the book, as you are not going to find it. This was selected by my book club and it was one of the most interesting discussions we have had in five years. Read this book!
Can't wait to turn the page! Jul 20, 2009
I'm reading this book right now and am really enjoying it. I'm an avid reader and I love getting a peak at the world of publishing. This is a story of love, being lost and being found. The story is staying with me through the day and I can't wait to get back to the book each evening.
a sensitive, heartbreaking, ever-suspenseful novel Jul 19, 2009
Colin Scott dreams of an idealistic world. A world where literary agents like himself always sell the books that deserve the greatest publicity. A world where writers care less about fame and fortune than about creating the best stories and where publishers are driven by classic prose rather than hard cold cash.
Colin Scott also dreams of a world where he and his beloved wife, Jen, a movie wardrobe designer, can spend enough time away from their hectic careers in order to live a life together - one that involves actual conversations, not just text messages and voice mails sent in between meetings - one which they both hope will soon include a baby.
Travis Thrasher writes a sensitive, heartbreaking, ever-suspenseful novel involving characterization that is never caricatured and plot twists which keep the reader continually guessing between what is reality and what is fiction.
A Life-Changing Novel Mar 19, 2009
"Sky Blue" was published two years ago. I didn't discover Travis Thrasher until I ran across "Isolation," and liked it so much that I wanted to read more. "Sky Blue" was the one I settled on.
It's a stunning novel.
The story line seems straightforward -- Colin Scott is a book agent in Chicago, his wife Jennifer a costume designer for movies -- and they're growing apart as he loses his love of book publishing and she struggles with their inability to have children. They go to Cancun for vacation -- and a tragic accident leaves Colin struggling not only for meaning in his life but also his sanity. He descends into a kind of madness, where he keeps seeing Jennifer and receiving emails and even visits from her. But he can't, not really -- because she's dead.
But Travis Thrasher takes the reader on a journey, a journey about writing and books, about love lost and love regained, about the book publishing business, and ultimately about art and life and faith.
"Sky Blue" made me remember the love I used to have for books, and why I loved to read. To find that again is priceless. It's one of the very few books I've read that fundamentally changes you by the time you finish it.
