Item description for Sour Raisins by Tracy Cochrane...
Overview I climbed up over the guardrail and as high up the metal structure as I could. I stood there looking out over the water. It was so quiet and peaceful. The city lights were reflecting in the water so beautifully. I wished my life could be as somber and peaceful. Then just as I was about to plunge into the peacefulness, someone called out to me. "Hey there, whatcha thinkin' about doin'?" It was an old man. He was walking towards me on the other side of the guardrail. "You leave me alone!" I yelled. "Oh... I can't do that," he said. "I'm on my way home and I just don't think I'd be able to sleep tonight if I saw some girl jump off a bridge." "Then don't watch!" I yelled. Have you ever wondered why you were ever even born? Ever wondered, "Why me?" Follow along in a story about a girl named Shelly. Discover how she was able to overcome the most confusing, painful, scary, and dangerous times in her life. Run with her, cry with her, and learn with her as she discovers a past almost too painful to believe. And then see how she discovers the meaning of true love in ways she never thought existed.

Sour Raisins is Awesome! Mar 4, 2004
Sour Raisins is so full of drama and excitement, it never seems to quit, even to the very end. Shelly is taken on a path in her life that she never expected. She is put in danger, forced to make choices and when she is taken under the wing of a Police Sergeant, she has to learn way more then she ever thought about love and trust. Together they try to rebuild their lives as they both work through tragedies and try to put to rest a past that is unbearably painful. This book is hard to put down! It is a library must-have and is great for teens as well as adults. It is inspiring. It shows that through all trials and tribulations, there is hope and there is love. A great read!

Sour Raisins was a very insightful book on what it must be like for a lot of young people growing up in our world today. Shelly could be anyone's child, struggling to fit in, trying to amount to something, longing to be loved. You find yourself ready to jump in the book, to protect her. I just couldn't put it down!

Excellent Budding Author Aug 20, 2003
I read Ms. Cochrane's new book in one sitting. The only thing I had to remember was that Ms. Cochrane's writing is meant to reach out to young teens who are in distress. Tracy leads us down a trail of intrigue and excitement that never seems to quit ! Shelly is a full bodied character as is David, Allen and Angie and Brad. Her message to the teens is a message of hope in thier darkest hours. It is an exciting and adventurous read. I had contacted Ms. Cochrane and asked her a BIG favor, I asked her to please read her book on tape for my blind daughter. Ms. Cochrane did so, and did so beautifully !!! So when you read this book, picture Angie with a "valley girl" accent ! Delightful !! As you can tell, I highly recommend this book.
