Item description for A Love to Last Forever (The Brides of Gallatin County, Book 2) by Tracie Peterson...

All Beth Gallatin has really wanted out of life is to settle down in one town, with one man, and raise a family. But with her father's roaming ways, she's always been denied that dream; instead, she found solace in reading romantic books. With her father's passing, she can, for the first time, dare to claim the rugged Montana frontier as her home. Nick Lassiter has loved Beth since she first came to town, but she's always seemed to think of him more as a brother. Just when he finally gets Beth to consider him, however, a challenger threatens the affection growing between them. But neither Nick nor Beth is prepared when they must face the consequences of Nick's complicated past. As a past fraught with unwise choices and guilt invades their world, can Nick and Beth find a love that will last forever?

Love this book ...  Feb 6, 2010
Love this book love all the three books , love the sisters and there stories ...
Good Read but nothing really special  Jul 24, 2009

This book continues the story of the Gallatin sisters and this book focus on Beth, the sister with the romantic dreams and wishes. She's an avid reader of dime store novels and seeks to find that storybook romance in her real life. Unfortunately for her, it's not as easy as for her to find true love as it is for the heroines in her books. Beth is the type of character I'm not really too fond of in books. I really don't like heroines that can't make up their minds about what they want. It's ok to be have goals and hope to attain them one day, but I despise wishy-washy folks. I did though enjoy reading about Beth's adventures with her sisters. It's nice to read about families that are still close even when they are adults. The historical bits are fun to read, and I still like reading about how they are running the house as a stop for travelers.

The romance in this book is very much there although slightly rushed. I thought the wedding in this book came rather abruptly, it seemed like it came out of nowhere. Obviously the signs were all there, but I just thought there would be more build up and growth of a relationship. The biggest thing that really bugged me about the book was the fact that the sisters did the whole laudanum trick again, this time on an entire saloon. I honestly cannot believe that they did not learn from their previous time doing this with their now brother-in-law, that this is very dangerous. It's played off for laughs but I just can't believe that they thought this was a smart idea. To be honest the whole book I felt sorta lackluster while reading it. I enjoyed it, as I always do Tracie's books. It was just that with this book, I felt that everything in the story has been written before in other books. There wasn't really anything that stood out to me to make this one special. Perhaps my problem is that since I've read all of Tracie's books, I can easily spot when a storyline gets reused. For a new fan, this won't be a problem and it is a very enjoyable book. Hopefully the third book in the series will be a little better for me.
Wonderlust? Not Beth.  Jun 5, 2009
A Love to Last Forever by Tracie Peterson

Beth Gallatin was not bit by wanderlust as her father was. What she wants is simple, to stay put. She's done roaming the ends of the earth and simply wants to make Gallatin House her lifelong home. She has a secret interest in romance novels that add complications to her life. Which of her suiters is "dying of love for her?"

Nick Lassiter is at odds with his emotions. Will he ever succeed in wooing Beth? He struggles for forgiveness. His not so innocent past threatens the slender thread of affection between he and Beth.

This book is impossible to put down. The heart of Montana captivates the readers and compels them to imagine life in 1879. Beth her two sisters, the "girls" at Rafe's, and of course the town bachelors make a wonderful cast that quickly enthrall the reader.

A Love To Last Forever has romance, adventure, hope and intrigue. The outrageous saloon keeper is not the only wild animal that threatens the lives of Nick and Beth. I enjoyed this book and look forward to the third book in the Brides of Gallatin County series.
The Brides of Gallatin County, Book 2  Jun 1, 2009
Beth's story was the book that left, both, myself and my daughter (who is 30 something) actually wanting more and looking very forward to reading the 3rd and final book. She struggles thoughout much of the book trying to decide who she wants to fall in love with whether it is Nick who has been in her life for many years or Adrian, who is new. Definitely, the reader throughout the story is pulling for Nick and is pleased with her choice ... she is also struggling with the many moves her father has had them do throughout their lives and the fear of future moves that will continue to plague her through out the 3rd book in the series. This book also deals with the fact that she at first is searching in Dime Store novels for the answers to her questions when the answers of course, are to be found in the Bible. It is a good book, in fact a very good book but not a fabulous book ... is it a book I would read again ... a series I would read again .. Yes ... both I and my daughter (even with our 25 year age span) enjoyed them all and would definitely recommend them all! Read this and then go on to Lacy's story in the final Book Three!
Romantic Montana Frontier Life and Sisterhood  May 23, 2009
Set in the 1870's, the Brides of Gallatin County series focuses on three sisters: Gwen, Beth, and Lacy. Together the sisters run Gallatin House, a roadhouse where they board and feed the stage coach passengers traveling through the Montana frontier. Book #2, "A Love to Last Forever" tells twenty-two year old Beth's story, focusing on her struggles with finding the right suitor and her fight to overcome a guilty conscience after her father's unfortunate death. Her supportive sisters and a strong faith in God help her through the hardships and uncertainties she faces.

I immediately liked Beth's character. She's a book lover, particularly dime romance novels and a hopeless romantic waiting for someone to sweep her off her feet. She also likes to scheme and her actions get her into trouble from time to time. Her main interests lie in the mysterious, hardworking Nick Lassiter and the suave Adrian Murphy, a railroad surveyor. Because her father made the family move so often during her childhood, the thing she wants most is to have a permanent home, someplace to set roots. Of all the sisters, I'm probably the most like Beth.

Even though I read book #2 before book #1 of the series (Gwen's "A Promise to Believe In"), I didn't have much difficulty in understanding the plot. Peterson adequately fills in the main story lines so her books can be read out of order. Book #2 contains more drama, violence, suffering and losses than the previous book. I myself could have done without some of the violent scenes, though I suppose Peterson was trying to capture the spirit of the untamed west. I'm looking forward to finishing off the trilogy when book #3 "A Dream to Call My Own" releases in June.
