Item description for Praying the Gospels: Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John by Elmer L. Towns...
Overview We all want to know Jesus better, so we read about Him in the Gospels. But in the book Praying the Gospels, we not only learn about Him, but we learn how to talk to Him as we read the Gospels. The author, Elmer Towns, brings a unique perspective to the four Gospels, translating them directly from the Greek and combining then into one continuous whole. He then expands them and infuses color by including information about the authors, the culture, and the religious practices of the day. As with his other "Praying the Bible" books, Towns adds an opportunity to pray after each chapter through a "My Time to Pray" page which draws key points from the chapter and springboards into a specific prayer.
Publishers Description Praying the Gospels tells the story of the life of Jesus in sequential order so that the readers will learn about Jesus' birth, the sermons He preached, His miracles and His death at Calvary. But it's more than head knowledge; the reader will come to lov

Reviews - What do customers think about Praying The Gospels?
Inspirational, Instructive, and Life Changing Apr 20, 2007
"Praying the Gospels" is the fifth in the "Praying the Scripture Series" written by award winning author Elmer Towns. The short uniformly formatted chapters lend themselves to being read in a devotional approach, for use in group Bible study fellowships, or for extended personal study.
The format includes a unique story that establishes the historical background or reference to customs of the time. A "My Time to Pray" page gives opportunity to reflect on the background material or scriptural passage slanted to personal commitment or needs. Selections from the four Gospels are translated directly from the Greek text and recorded in a paraphrase.
Towns has written "Praying the Gospel" and the other books in this series in the hope of helping the reader approach the reading of Scripture in an attitude of prayer, and that change will result through the experience.
Although written in layman's terms "Praying the Gospels" is well researched, scholarly, and complete. The book can be used as a devotional guide, as a handbook for studying the life of Christ, or as a manual for establishing a more effective prayer life.

A very easy, down to earth book to read. The four gospels are intertwined into one.
A good book for individuals or group devotionals. Prayers throughout the book to pray while reading. Book reads like a story.
