Item description for Praying for Your Second Chance: Prayers from Deuteronomy & Numbers (Praying The Scriptures) by Elmer Towns...
Overview The chapters are not written in normal paragraph form; rather they are arranged in poetic stanzas. Praying the Scriptures is superior to reading the Scriptures, because normal reading of the Bible deals with the intellect, i.e., you pass the message through your mind. But when you Pray the Scriptures, you go to a deeper level, i.e., to the heart.Your emotions become involved in the message, and then you move your will, for when you talk to God through the Scriptures, you have chosen to worship God and obey Him.

We all need a SECOND chance Mar 24, 2009
Our Lord is a Lord who gvies to us our needed second chance. Dr. Towns, an excellent communicator of the Word, teaches us what Jesus has taught him about the Books of Numbers and Deuteronomy. Dr. Towns said on page 214 "When I finish this fifth book, I will put all of them in the Ark of the covenant. Moses wanted everything he wrote to be available to future generations, those who wouldn't hear his sermons." Further Dr. Towns said on page 361 "Lord, help me to learn the lessons Moses learned....His was a life well-lived and his death was well-received by God. Lord, may I die well." Praise the Lord!

Elmer Towns writes, using a poetic style in "Praying for Your Second Chance," another in the "Praying the Scriptures" series. This selection draws from prayers found in the Old Testament books of Numbers and Deuteronomy.
Chapter by chapter Towns recounts the narrative from the scriptures in his unique style of paraphrasing and filling in background with his perceptions of what might have been with the facts as related by Biblical scholars past and present. Each chapter incorporates a prayer or prayers that relate directly to a challenge, a question, or an insight from the scripture itself.
I found the prayers under the title "My Time to Pray" to be of real significance, as they captured the essence of lessons God wants His people to glean from His Word. They also reveal a sense of personal worship as Towns pours out his heart to the God of Israel, the God of the universe, and the God who sent His Son to redeem sinful man. These are humble prayers of submission, of thanksgiving, of praise and of worship.
Town's writing is both popular and scholarly. He infuses a contemporary relevance into the message of these books through his detailed descriptive phrases that bring the scriptures to life. The historical summaries of the book of Numbers reads like current events with familiar names and places. The instructions, call to obedience, judgments, covenant renewal and final days of Moses recorded in the book of Deuteronomy are presented in a way easily understood emphasizing personal application for living today.
"Praying For Your Second Chance" is an important book for Pastors and Bible Teachers, but will also be appreciated by every Christian looking for a meaningful Bible study with application for daily devotional reading.
