Ecology of Sulawesi Nov 17, 2009
Sulawesi is the former Island of Celebes in eastern Indonesia. It has a unique fauna and flora.
Many of the freshwater species of fish found in southeast Asia have not crossed the deep passage (Wallaces Line) that separates it from mainland Malyasia and Borneo. The Malili lakes in central Sulawesi have species flocks of fishes, shrimps, crabs, and freshwater shrimops that are derived from marine ancestors. This is an excellent book that discusses the biodiversity of Sulawesi. I highly recommend it to those interested in ecosystems and biodiversity. There are both english and Indonesian language versions of the book. Hopefully, it will assist the Indonesians to help conserve and manage their natural resources.
Great, detailed book. Nov 12, 2008
I never write reviews for this site books, but for this one i will. The book reads like a scientific journal without being too dense. This is great for me because i get annoyed when im reading something like this and they use scientific terms without explaining what they are. This book explains indonesias natural history very well with detailed info on biogeography, human history and of course flora and fauna.
