Item description for The Bread of God: Nurturing a Eucharistic Imagination by Anthony Kelly & Tony Kelly...
Overview For Catholics the Eucharist is the continual animation of our lives. It is a way of thinking forged from the presence of Christ incarnate, crucified, and risen that gives direction to our own lives. Here Father Tony Kelly shows us how the Eucharist is more than just a blueprint for the Church. It is truly the source and summit of our lives in Christ. It is also a way for us to imagine that is intimately related to the imagination of Jesus him-self. This book is for those who want to really live the paschal feast.
Publishers Description This book is designed to deepen our experience of the Eucharist, beginning with the central thought of Saint Irenaeus of Lyons that, "Our way of thinking is attuned to the Eucharist; and the Eucharist, in turn, confirms our way of thinking". The introductory chapter reflects on the reality of our Eucharistic imagination -- our way of thinking that links us to the mind of Christ, the mind of the Church and to each of us in the body of Christ, Early chapters examine the Eucharist as promoted in the New Testament by Paul and John. Later chapters discuss the characteristics of the Eucharist and a Eucharistic people: sacrifice, communion, judgment, praise, and love. Finally, the last chapter considers the Eucharist as a manifestation of the presence of the Holy Spirit.

The Christening of the Universe Jul 28, 2007
This celebration of the life-giving Eucharist is definitely worth reading -- especially for the chapter on "Ecology and the Eucharistic Imagination". Father Kelly points out that the eucharistic gift of Christ's body and blood has the effect of restoring our sense of being creatures of this earth and stewards of God's good creation. The most intense moment of communion with God is at the same time an intense moment of our communion with the earth. This book recognizes the reality of the Incarnation itself as it makes us see the universe as the "body" of God. If you ever need a reason to start going to mass again, this book will give it to you.
In God's image Jul 21, 2006
The book illuminates complexities of the Eucharist by providing examples of how it images God for and in the believer, and how, as symbol it works in God's creative imagining in Christ by the Holy Spirit to accomplish his purpose for creation and for humanity. It is a passionate and inspiring meditation on the wholeness and trajectory of God's creation as it is revealed in the Eucharist. I would recommend it to serious students, as well as anyone who is looking to find spiritual depth in the practice of Eucharist.
