Tom Reed Writes What He Knows Mar 11, 2007
Tom Reed writes with lyrical passion about a subject he knows intimately -- horses and mountains. Specifically, horses and mountains in the great state of Wyoming. You don't have to be a horseman or an outdoorsman to enjoy this book. You just need to enjoy a good story written well. It's a highly personal story at times, but Tom never allows his raw emotions to get the bit in their teeth. All the same, he makes the reader feel what he feels vividly. This man is a lover and what he loves most is a good horse between his legs and a big mountain before his eyes. Throw in a starry night beside a campfire, a few beers and a griz or two for good measure, and it doesn't get any better. My only gripe about this book is it's too damned short. But then, isn't that the ultimate compliment?
I finally get it! Mar 9, 2007
Having been born and raised in Wyoming, you'd think I'd be a country girl like so many of my friends. You know the kind of girl who feels best in a pair of Wranglers and has hay bales and saddles in the back of my truck; not the kind of girl I really am--more comfortable in a skirt and no room for any horse equipment in my red sports car.
Honestly when my friends' eyes glaze over after a great ride, or when speaking of the connection they have with their horse, or the anticipation of forming a relationship with another I've asked myself "how come you've never gotten it?"
Thanks to Tom Reed's amazing writing talent, I finally understand the passion, the glaze, the excitement. You know the kind of writing I'm talking about...the kind that you don't just read and if lucky, linger over a few minutes as you tuck away the book in the cupboard. But the kind of writing you read, you feel, you think, you imagine and you linger over long after you've finished the last page. Thanks to that kind of writing What 40 years of Wyoming living couldn't imprint on me, Tom was able to accomplish with this book and his writing.
Thanks for such a wonderful book. Thanks for telling a simple, yet powerfully written story about life's journeys
