Item description for Schizophrenic by Tom Miyashiro...

Remember what it was like to live without the Lord and what it felt like to come into his kingdom? Schizophrenic is a book aimed at encouraging and drawing readers into a closer relationship to Jesus Christ. Author Tom Miyashiro focuses primarily on the events that led up to his personal conversion, weaving the use of superheroes into his theological message. Tom believes this book will appeal to both Christians and non-Christians, specifically in regard to those who are seeking matters pertaining to spiritual lives and religious experiences. Schizophrenic is an atypical book that takes a controversial approach to evangelism by exploring the great lengths that God went through to unite us to Himself.

Reviews - What do customers think about Schizophrenic?

Check It Out  Apr 20, 2010
Tom Miyashiro is a fellow Tate Publishing author. We share a mutual friend in Connecticut who pastors a Calvary Chapel in Montville. I never met Tom in person, but I almost feel I know him well after reading his book "Schizophrenic."

Somehow, his book challenged my heart and stirred emotions that made me want to follow hard after Jesus. His book forced me to re-visit my own spiritual challenges through the years and ponder on my commitment to God's plan for my life.

I was moved by his candor and simplicity in leading readers to see an unmistakable, everlasting, impression that Jesus has left on his life. Oftentimes using his old comic book super-heroes as illustration, he expertly laces together some tangled strands of theology to highlight the love of Jesus for all is who ever felt wounded, abandoned, angry, or lost in their spiritual schizophrenia. Frankly, that's been all of us from time to time. But not many of us have been placed in a psychiatric ward because of it. From inside darkened walls, both institutionally and spiritually, Tom reached out for someone who cared. His depiction relating his first real, and emotional, encounter with Jesus is masterful.

Tom's intensity in his approach to Jesus is like a mafia boss ruling his turf. It reminds me of what Jesus said about the sinful women weeping at His feet as she anointed Him with oil: "...I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven--for she loved much. But he who has been forgiven little loves little." Tom loves Jesus much, and his dedication to ministry is evident of that. On April 4th of this year, which was Easter, Tom spoke at Palmer Auditorium at Connecticut College. That was a day after his wife Amy, age 27, succumbed to brain cancer. You can check out that speech on Facebook under Tom Miyashiro (look for his website under the info tab).

Realizing that Tom lost the love of his life, whose conversion he recalls in chapter 9, adds to the reading of this book. Tom's writing hits the "does God love me?" question squarely on the head. Though Tom's main ministry is to youth, I found his book for folks of all ages. Pick it up, it's a tour de force to be read and passed along.
Great Book  Mar 7, 2010
I love this book Tom tells it like it is From beginning to end of the book From middle school up to high school he was very angery young man. When I was reading the book it brought back memories of when he and I went to school together. This is a great book for anyone to read!!
