Reviews - What do customers think about The Rising: Antichrist Is Born (Before They Were Left Behind, Book 1)?
I am very disappointed with the chronological direction! Feb 27, 2007
I was so looking forward to book XIV advancing the characters into the Millennial Kingdom (Christ's 1000 year reign on earth) but, instead, the reader was thrown back in time to the early lives of the "Left Behind" characters. The first book failed to inspire me. The second book has been left unread and untouched for months now in my bookcase. Oh the heights thou has fallen Mr. LaHaye and Mr. Jenkins. My impression is that you have ceased to care about the reader and are more interesting in churning out Christian pulp fiction for profit and fame. Even Mr. LaHaye's introduction to the first book of the "Babylon Rising" series seems to beg and plead for the book's success. I highly enjoyed that series but why plead? Let your work stand or fall on its own merit.
Please, gentlemen, let's see the progression of the "Left Behind" characters and not a regression. Let's advance the characters into the Millenium! Now, I am the one who is pleading. :þ
A series for adults and young adults Feb 22, 2007
This series is from a Christian apocalyptic perspective. It is compelling, well-written, and a good read, both from a literary point of view and a philosophical point of view. It deals with the road to the "End Times." The characters are engaging, the action is exciting, and the plot is well presented. The companion series, the Left Behind Series for kids is also worth looking into for the young set.
More crap to milk money from christians. Jan 25, 2007
How to write a bad novel: Take a bunch of one dimensional characters from a neverending series of books where nothing ever happenes. Then write a prequel about those characters. Throw in lots of Christian proselytizing and right wing moralising. Oooh... The Antichrists parents are homosexuals... I should have known...
How to make millions of dollars by doing so: Aim the books at Christian readers who will faithfully buy any book that is Christian, no matter how bad it is.
Let's be honest. The Left Behind series could have been made into a trilogy, but they so desperately wanted to make even more money out of the concept so they padded the story into (so far) 12 tediously slow books. And when the main story was finished, they started writing prequels, equally tedious. And not only are the books padded for lenght, Jerry No-Talent Jenkins obviously has no clue how to write interesting characters. "The Rising" is true to the style of the "Left Behind" book, except that it's, if possible, even less engaging, since, if we've read the "Left Behind" books, we already know what will happen to the characters.
Why do I keep reading these books? I guess I just can't stay away from trash culture. Unfortunately, the Left Behind books have no redeeming qualities. I don't mind trash literature, but these books are not just trashy, they are boring - and stupid. This one was too boring to finish. I can not recommend this book to anyone who isn't a die-hard Jenkins/LaHaye fan, and even they may be bored by this tedious book.
A story of two boys Jan 24, 2007
I had just finished the twelfth "Left Behind" book and was wondering how to feed my ravenous addiction to this series; then I found the prequels and eagerly started reading, "The Rising." It was surprisingly exciting and, I think, the best-written of the books so far. It's all about the childhoods of Rayford Steel and Nicholae Carpathia. Ray grows up in an average mid-west family, marries, and becomes a pilot. Nicholae is born to troubled parents in Romania; with the help of the mysterious Viv Inis he becomes a phenomenally successful entrepreneur with an eye on world domination.
Unbelievable dialogue was Jenkins' weakness in the previous books, but "The Rising" has a lot less dialogue and reads better. The narrative is swift and mesmerizing. I couldn't wait to see what would happen next to young Nicholae - his story was absolutely chilling and would make a terrific movie. Ray's life is more conventional but still interesting and well-told. The book ends with Nicholae, 23, about to enter the political arena; Ray is 32, dealing with marital problems and temptation at work. "Left Behind" fans are sure to enjoy this exciting prequel; it's a quick and satisfying read.
Praise the Lord Jun 22, 2006
You ask if this (Tribulation) is true, than why bother being a Christian , you can live how you want and then get your 2nd chance in the Tribulation after the Rapture. Well, I assure you, a 'pre-trib' rapture is by FAR the most believed of the three (incl. mid-trib rapture or no rapture...just the Second Coming) The most blatant, obvious proof in scripture of a pre-trib rapture is found in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 : 'For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the call of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, all the Christians who have died will rise from the graves. Then, together with them,we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and remain with Him forever.(NLT)
There is a very good reason to accept Christ NOW before this happens . God promises tomorrow to NO ONE. If anyone that hasn't accepted Christ should die tonight, there IS no second chance, they'll spend eternity in hell and then the lake of fire(unbelievers judged at the Great White Throne Judgement will be cast with Satan into the lake of fire..Revelation 20:11-15) after Christ's 1000 year reign on earth. Even if you choose to deny Christ until after the Rapture and intend on turning to Him during the 7 year Tribulation, it won't be a picnic. Christians will be persecuted and hunted down day and night and be killed, most likely beheaded for their beliefs. The worst of the years will be the final 3 1/2 years which will culminate with Armagedden. As God said in 2 Corinthians 6:2 TODAY is the day of salvation" I'm looking SO forward to that day when the Lord will come for me and all born again believers that we won't HAVE to endure the tortures during the Tribulation. Please don't confuse the writings of LaHaye/Jenkins with the many writings of the TRUE false prophets of this age. The Da Vinci Code, The Jesus Papers just to name a couple of the blasphemous writings that Satan has unleashed. God bless Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins for spreading the Truth!
Re: Darth Wader(In response to Wader's initial response shown below) First of all, when I was quoting 2 Corinthians 6:2 , I was just stating how I was looking forward to the Lord returning at the Rapture, I sure didn't mean it the way you interpreted it, that those words were in the bible. After 'salvation' in that sentence(note quotation marks) I stated my feelings.
Even among those of us who view the rapture as imminent (the pretribulational view) there remains disagreement concerning whether Jesus Himself ever prophesied of this blessed hope. The debate primarily involves the Lord's Olivet Discourse--in particular, verses 36-51 of Matthew 24.
Few deny that Jesus, in His humanity, knew of the rapture and alluded to it at least once in the Upper Room to comfort His disciples: "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself, that where I am, there ye may be also" (John 14:3). Many, however, insist that the Messiah's sermon on the Mount of Olives was meant exclusively for the nation of Israel and not the "church", so He could not have been referring to the rapture. This argument fails to acknowledge that the message He preached was in response to questions raised by His disciples--those believing Jews whom He would one day receive unto Himself "in the clouds... in the air" (1 Thessalonians 4:17). Most Christian writings, when it comes to the world's reaction regarding the rapture, paint a picture of total ignorance of what has happened. The common understanding is, in order to have the Antichrist come to power, a blanket of ignorance needs to be thrown over all tribulation events. The unsaved typically say, "Where did everyone go?" This thought process has dominated rapture writings for the past 25 years. I believe the whole purpose of the rapture is to get people's attention. In contrast to what some authors think, information about the rapture permeates society, so much so that the occurrence of the rapture will likely cause a good deal of weeping and wailing. The world will most certainly take notice when the rapture occurs. If the Statue of Liberty suddenly vanished from New York Harbor, ABC, NBC, CBS, and CNN would break from regular programming to cover this marvel. To have millions of people disappear without a trace, the media storm cannot be imagined. If one car or airplane crashed without a driver or pilot, it would be a major news item. After the rapture, the media will have thousands of examples to choose from. Think of the vital positions that Christians hold in the workplace. Many businesses will be paralyzed by the loss of key personnel; the economy will suffer a devastating blow; and millions of people, who had friends and family members raptured, will be terrified. The rapture will create a media event that will rival any breaking news event from the past. If you turned on your television, you would find 24-hour-coverage on every channel. The President would be calling emergency meeting after emergency meeting, and churches would be filled to overflowing. Right after the rapture, millions of people will find "religion," repenting of every sin they have committed--and of some they haven't. The prophecy section in all Christian bookstores will be cleaned out, and you may need reservations to attend Sunday church services. Well, maybe not at all churches. The world will be in a state of supreme chaos, and out of this mess will arise the man who will have an answer to every question. This man, the Antichrist, has been repeatedly mentioned in the New Testament. Paul the Apostle spoke of him frequently. The Antichrist will be the greatest salesman in history because he will sell the people the biggest lie ever. Satan will be so impressed with him that he will give this man his full power. Paul also stated that because the people will have no pleasure in the truth, God will send them strong delusion that they may be damned. Exactly what that delusion is, we can only guess. What methodology the Antichrist will use to explain away the rapture, I have no idea. Some say he will cite space aliens as the reason, and some say the explanation will be that they went into another dimension to receive better understanding. If we are truly grounded in the Word of God, no lie, no matter how beguiling, will be able to shake us loose from the truth. Now, you claim you need to be baptised to be saved? Then why would Jesus say in John 3:3 'Verily, verily,I say unto you,Except a man be BORN AGAIN,he cannot see the Kingdom of God. (the term , 'born again' means that man has already had a natural birth, but now must have a Spiritual Birth, which comes by Faith in Christ, and what He has done for us at the Cross, and is available to all) Verse 5 Jesus answered (Nicodemus) ,'Verily, verily,I say unto you,Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit (the phrase,'Born of water,' speaks of the natural birth, which Jesus says in the next verse, and pertains to a baby being born;being 'Born of the Spirit, speaks of a Spiritual Birth, whcih is brought about by God Alone'and neither does it speak of Water Baptism) Being baptised does NOT save a soul. Many religions practice that and they coundn't be further from the scripture. AFTER being born again, aka accepting Christ into one's heart, repenting of one's sins and then living for Him ,one can become baptised (full water immersion) to proclaim to the world of one's conversion to Christ. Just like good works do NOT save a soul. Ephesians 2:8,9 ..'For by Grace are you saved through Faith;and that not of yourselves:it is the Gift of God.Not of works, lest anyman should boast ( you cannot and will not ever EARN a gift, God is not impressed with our good works, but AFTER being born again, THEN God expects us to do good works) I agree with you about antichrists, there were and are and will be many of them, but Satan himself will appoint THE Antichrist, who will look to be worshiped as Christ Himself. Tribulation: Revelation 7:13 "Then one of the twenty-two elders asked me,'Who are these who are clothes in white? Where do they come from? And I said to him,'Sir,you are the one who knows.' Then he said to me,'These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They washed their robes in the blood of the Lamb and made them white.(NLT) Revelation 6:4 And there went out another horse that was red(portraying war) and power was given unto him(the Antichrist) who sat thereon to takepeace from the earth, and that they should kill one another:and there was given unto him a great sword(This proclaims the fact that more people will be killed during the time of the Great Tribulation than at any other similar time frame in history) Revelation 7:9 'After this I beheld, and,lo,a great multitude (pertains to martyrs who gave their live for Christ in the Great Tribulation),which no man could number (represents the many, possibly millions, who will be saved in the Great Tribulation),of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the Throne, and before the Lamb. Revelation 11:2 But the Court which is without the Temple leave out,and measure it not;for it is given unto the Gentiles (refers to the Court of the Gentiles, which was the furthest Court from the Temple;this'measurement' is for Judgement): and the Holy City(Jerusalem) shall they tread under foot forty and two months. (This refers to the period that will end the 'times of the Gentiles'[Luke 21:24].At the midpoint of the Great Tribulation, the Antichrist will turn on Israel, actually attacking her and she will be temporarliy defeated. He will occupy the Temple ,making it his religious headquarters[2 Thess.2:4]He will occupy it for three and one half years). These are just a few of the prophecies in the bible that refer to the tribulation period(it's ALL in interpreting it correctly) Daniel is also a very good book for prophecy. The bottom line is, if you are truly saved (accepted Christ as Saviour) all our scriptual references , however one chooses to interpret them, are a moot point. To be truly ready to meet the Lord is ALL that matters. Amen? (note, I was careful to put my words in parenthesis after verses, so as not to confuse)
RE: Darth Wader It appears Darth Wader has deleted his latest post. If this means he's agreeing with me, no, actually, agreeing with the Bible, praise God! I pray he accepts Christ while there's time. Here's some latest prophecy news: BIRD FLU HAS MUTATED...in other words, it has been passed on from human to human. THIS is scary UNLESS you know the Lord as your personal Savior. (6-25-06)
Bird flu, in case you haven't heard yet, has mutated. Two stories I've read in the last 24 hours support this disturbing fact.
The first story is a Fox News story which indicates the following, in part:
The World Health Organization has detailed the first evidence that the deadly bird flu virus mutated and spread from person to person within a family, but experts said Friday the genetic change does not increase the threat of a pandemic.
A mutated version of bird flu that is transmissible from person to person doesn't increase the likelihood of a pandemic? Since when? What the World Health Organization is now suggesting doesn't increase the possibility of a pandemic is precisely what does raise the possibility there could be a deadly pandemic, even from a common sense perspective History offers a stern warning: In the past 300 years, there have been 10 pandemics of influenza that began when viruses jumped from birds to humans, Osterholm said.
The worst infectious-disease outbreak ever recorded, the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic, infected about 30 percent of the world's population and killed 50 million to 100 million people.
In the Bible, we're told, as seen in Matthew 24:7: "For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places." Not only are we told there will be pestilences in the last days, I often speculate what the Word of God is referring to when it states the following will take place in the early Tribulation Period, as recorded in Revelation 6:8:
And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.
As we now begin to witness what may be the birthing process of a bird flu pandemic beginning that could see millions die as took place during the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918, the world around us is literally filled with signs pointing to the soon-coming return of Jesus Christ! Even so, many continue to mock those of us who keep sounding the alert that Jesus Christ is coming soon. Someday - and it may not be long - those who are presently mockful of the faithful will be wishing they'd listened when they had the opportunity to come to faith in Jesus Christ during the Church Age, but it will be too late. The Tribulation Period, complete with all its horrors, will be upon them and there will be no way out for them short of death!
Any day now, the Church could be Raptured home to be with the Lord! When that happens, whether it's tomorrow or twenty years from now, the beasts of the earth are going to play a prominent role in the death of 1/4 of mankind shortly thereafter.
RE:DARTH WADER I explained about the water ; I agree being baptised in the Holy Spirit is essential, it's part of being BORN AGAIN.But infant baptism, like many religions teach, do not save that baby/child if he/she dies. ALL children under age 5 or so go to heaven automatically(baptised or not) if they die because they are too young to comprehend the meanings behind accepting the Lord as one's Savior. I just thank the Lord daily for dying for me (hence PERSONAL Savior) and am so blessed to have Him in my heart. AMEN and AMEN.
