Planet Word Bible Sep 7, 2005
I like that I can read about people God uses all over the planet. It's not just Americans, but people from Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Africa and other places I probably have not gotten to yet. When I read about how God is using kids to do stuff it gave me some ideas for me and my family, and I like the prayers to help me pray for people who do not have Bibles yet, or who have a hard life. Sometimes I never know really what to pray, so it helps. The color pages in the back tell about kids from other countries so I see what their lives are like a little bit. I like the cover with all the GPS stuff, too, because my family has a GPS and it is fun.

This is the first Bible for children/youth that I have seen where they put in biographies of people worth emulating, instead of what the media puts out there in the way of shady sports heroes and movie stars. I am impressed to see that the people who planned this Bible chose to write biographies that are not all the same. Some come from the Bible, like Abraham, and some from history long ago, like St. Augustine. Others are more contemporary from lots of different heritages like Ahn Ei Sook, Gladys Aylward, Brother Andrew, William Carey, George Washington Carver, Samuel Adjai Crowther, Jim Elliot, Mitsuo Fuchida, Billy Graham, Franklin Graham, Eric Liddell, D.L. Moody, Mother Teresa, Luis Palau, Rochunga Pudaite, Pandita Ramabai, Moishe Rosen, Milt Shirleson, Joni Eareckson Tada, Hudson Taylor, Cameron Townsend, William Tyndale, Ralph Winter, and John Wycliffe, to name a few of the 150 adults. Then there are 50 biographies of children God is using to change the world for the better, and prayers that help kids know how to pray for people without Bibles, or who live in poverty and under persecution. It just broadens my child's world so much! They included 365 verses with short explanations that show how God has always wanted to reach out to all peoples, from Genesis clear through to Revelation! The 32 brightly colored pages in the back show maps, and what life if like for kids in all the different areas of the world: history, economics, population, religions, etc. I love the eye-popping color on those pages and on the covers, using the GPS theme. This is quite up-to-date, and I pray that many kids will learn that God can use them to make this a better world!
