Item description for Practical Divinity: Readings in Wesleyan Theology - Volume Two (Practical Divinity) by Thomas A. Langford...

This companion to "Practical Divinity, Volume 1: Theology in the Wesleyan Tradition" brings together a unique collection of writings that trace the development of the Methodist theological tradition from Wesley and his immediate successors through the twentieth century. These readings give life to the major themes and postitions, theological continuities and changes and cultural contexts, as well as national and international characteristics that enrich this tradition. These documents follow Methodism from its origins in Great Britian to its movement around the world, and open a new window for the reader on the people and issues which have given character to the movement.

Publishers Description

This companion to Practical Divinity, Volume 1: Theology in the Wesleyan Tradition enlivens and contextualizes the discussion of the Wesleyan theological tradition, from Wesley through the twentieth century, offering a group of landmark documents that allow readers to experience the very life-blood of the movement.

"Langford is to be commended for providing his readers with an insightful itinerary through the chronicle of significant figures and impulses which together constitute the matrix of the people called Methodists. The reader is challenged to grapple with the varied theological and cultural perspectives of voices that, though often divergent, still resonate with the pulse of a movement that has exerted a remarkably transforming influence upon the modern world." --J. Steven O'Malley, Asbury Theological Seminary, Wilmore, Kentucky.

Reviews - What do customers think about Practical Divinity: Readings in Wesleyan Theology - Volume Two (Practical Divinity)?

An excellent collection  Feb 6, 2007
Langford has done an excellent job of pulling together some of the key works from the Wesleyan tradition and demonstrated their relationships with one another and their tradition. This is the only book of which I am aware that undertakes this task. It is highly recommended for any interested in learning about Wesleyan theology and the shape it has taken over the years.

Also highly recommened is its companion Practical Divinity: Theology in the Wesleyan Tradition.
