Item description for If Jesus Came To My House by Joan G. Thomas & Lori McElrath-Eslick...
Overview Imagining what it would be like to spend a day with Jesus if he was the same age as he, a young boy envisions an afternoon of simple fun--picking vegetables together in the garden, playing with his favorite toys, and treating one another with true kindness and respect.
If Jesus came to your house, would he be your age and height? How would you treat him? Would you give him your nicest toys and let him have the longest turn on your rocking horse?
In this simple, touching story, a young boy realizes that he can treat others according to the lessons he would learn if Jesus really did come to his house.

New Illustrations disappoint Dec 14, 2009
I received this book as a gift from my parents almost 50 years ago. I loved it then and I still love it and own it! I recently purchased two new copies for gifts and was very disappointed with the new illustrations. The elephants being the "scary shadows" is extremely ridiculous to those who love this beautiful animal. Just the other day I was watching a show on Animal Planet about elephants - I think that show's producers would be disappointed to see elephants made to look like a child's nightmare. Also, my children loved the movie, "Dumbo" and were especially moved when they heard the lullaby, "Baby Mine" sung by Dumbo's mother.
I am glad that they did not change the words as they were so beautifully written. I would love it if they would have a new printing just like the original was done.
Thumbs up to the author, thumbs up to the original illustrator, thumbs down to the new illustrations.
This book can change your life Dec 1, 2009
I have not seen the new release of this favorite children's book. However, I received a copy of the first release when I was about 7 years old. It had a profound impact on my life. That is why I ordered 65 books for the First Communion class at my parish church. I hope it will influence them in the same way that it influenced me.
Older is better Jul 30, 2009
This children's classic has been a favorite of mine for over 50 years. I ordered the newly illustrated version due to a misunderstanding. Although I leafed through the pages of this book and the illustrations are not awful, I felt betrayed by the loss of the simple precious drawings which so deeply touched me both as a child and then as a mother reading to my own children. I do not understand the thinking behind changing a classic. I recommend anyone interested in the book to take a look at the original too--still available through used books. If Jesus Came To My House

this site sent me a review of this book, claiming that this choice was based on my previous purchases. Previous purchases? "Lyle,Crocodile"? "Bread and Jam for Frances"? "Jesse Bear, What Will You Wear?" "Carmen"? I have never ordered anything remotely about Jesus from this site or from anyone else. This sounds suspicious. Who on the this site team is out to save my soul? Or my son's? I don't need Jesus to teach my son about how to give his guests a warm welcome, thank you.
