Item description for Stepping Inside the Story: First Lesson Sermons for Pentecost Last Third, Cycle C by Thomas Rogers...
Overview Thomas G. Rogers writes that the drama of God's Word is not a story to be observed by spectators at a distance. God invites each of us to be full participants in this drama. It is his hope the stories in these sermons may be preached and heard not simply as stories about someone else, but that God may grant Christians the grace to experience them as our own, once we step inside them. The 10 sermons in this book are based on First Lesson texts. Many of the sermons are from Jeremiah. The sermons follow the Revised Common Lectionary.
Publishers Description "Tom Rogers' sermons face the hardest of real life's hard questions and find some surprising answers. The connections he makes between the world of scripture and ours are colorful and compelling. An expert storyteller, he weaves intriguing tales that subtly blend the threads of the biblical world with the threads of our daily lives." Dr. Jana Childers Professor of Homiletics San Francisco Theological Seminary "As one who does not usually get much out of sermon books, I can happily say that these sermons were very helpful Professor Rogers has not only given some great stories and content for us to chew on, but even more importantly, has modeled a way of preaching in story that can readily be utilized in the pulpit." More About Thomas Rogers
Thomas Rogers is forty seven years old and lives with his wife Emily and their two teenage daughters in Dallas, Texas. With the support of Emily and her unparallel love for him Thomas has been able to overcome his demons and become a successful businessman. Thomas recognizes he is by no means healed or cured and may never be, but has at a minimum relieved a great pressure from his life by authoring this book and telling his story. The hope for Thomas is that no one else in the world has suffered through the experiences he endured as a child and in the event someone has or is currently experiencing a similar situation and wants them to know there is hope for them. He wants others to know they are not alone and if he could overcome the obstacles that were placed in front of him and achieve happiness and success anyone with the desire to succeed has the ability within themselves to do the same. Thomas thinks about his abuse daily and what life would have been like for Emily and his daughters had he been successful in killing himself. He is ashamed and embarrassed by his actions and has learned to live each day as a gift and treasure the moments he has with his family.
