Reviews - What do customers think about A Chorus of Witnesses: Model Sermons for Today's Preacher?
From William B. Eerdmans Oct 1, 2007
Wanting to make model sermons more accessible to students, teachers, and pastors, the authors have compiled this anthology of mostly contemporary sermons that display excellence in form, aim, style, and content, Developed and delivered by renowned pastors, theologians, and homileticians, the thirty-six superb entries in this volume include sermons that make artful use of their sources, that pursue classic aims, that exhibit particular homiletic forms, and that are suited to special occasions.
Model Sermons for the Preacher Apr 2, 2007
The sermons within are extremely helpful as models for how to shape one's own unique voice when within the pulpit. The difference in all of the sermons and they are extremely good sermons shows that there is no one way to preach, to deliver a sermon, or how the sermon should be shaped. Professor Long is to be thanked for this good volume, which if read thoroughly and consulted will be an encouragement for the pastor who mounts the pulpit 52 Sundays a year.
A Great Collections Aug 1, 2003
This is a great collection of sermons - great variety, great depth, great insights, so good that it leaves me yearning for more. The editors added value by providing us with pointed and precise introductions that guide us through the techniques and strcutures of the individual sermons that greatly enhances our appreciation of them. Strongly recommended.
Preaching Great Sermons Jan 27, 2001
Where else might you find sermons by Karl Barth, Barbara Brown Taylor, Buechner, John Claypool, William S. Coffin, Fred Craddock, Both Buttricks, Gardner Taylor, plus two by Harry Emerson Fosdick?
Sermons on, A Sprig Of HOPE, Blindness, Fundamentalists, Laughter, Life As A Gift, Death of Two Sons, Holy Angels. I have only 10-12 collections of sermons on my bookshelf. This neat one, full of examples, surpasses all of them!
From challenging to persuasive, to stem-winding! From Doug Nelson's "Raging Faith" to Steimle's exciting, "Eye of The Storm" to Dr. Fosdick's lengthy, "Shall Fundamentalists Win?"
Tom Long and Cornelius Plantinga have edited a Superb collection of diamonds, emeralds, rubies and Jewels!
