Item description for Imitation Of Christ by Thomas Kempis & Richard Challoner...
Overview After the Bible, The Imitation is the all-time favorite book of Catholics for over 500 years. And this translation of Bishop Challoner, who revised the Douay-Rheims Bible in the 1740's, is the most beautiful and edifying we know of. Speaks to the soul of every Christian, reminding him of the shortness of time, the length of eternity and the brevity of earthly joy vs. the eternity of happiness with God. Belongs in every Catholic's library.

Reviews - What do customers think about Imitation Of Christ?
Imitate Christ by living a spiritual life May 18, 2008
This wonderful book was written by the priest Thomas a Kempis in the 1400's and is very reminecient of the Apostle Paul's writings by encouraging readers to live a simple spiritual life. It recommends that peace is found in the heart of the humble and that in overcoming the ego you overcome the world. Joy is found in a quiet conscience and you are only happy when you have done what is right. This may also be the original source of the advice to choose the less of two evils. It also warns that pleasure and desire carry the seeds of sorrow. This book is spiritual focusing on living the inner life and not getting entangled with the world. A must read for all Christians or anyone on a spiritual path.

This is not a review of the book per se (just got it, have not read it yet), but thought I needed to share this. Book arrived with another book (a textbook) in the usual this site box, each laying side by side. It was left out in the rain for most of the day by the local carrier until I brought it inside. The entire box was soaked and ruined, tape fallen off and box literally gaping open, all of the paperwork inside was falling apart in pieces and soaked, my textbook was completely ruined (soaked through, wavy wet pages etc - got returned), yet this book was absolutely dry - not a trace of even a microdrop of water - perfect condition. Take away whatever message you want...
A must-read classic... Feb 18, 2008
This is one of the best books I've ever read. It's a slow read, but not difficult - there's so much packed into these 280 pages that you'll have to take your time to get it all.
Great service Feb 9, 2008
It came as advertised. It came rapidly. The only complaint I have is that I ordered a hardcover and received a paperback.
The Imitation of Christ Jan 21, 2008
I love this book. This is a great book to read daily. I do a chapter or two a day and then look up the verses that are referenced. It is really humbling and puts things into perspective. Focus on eternity and not the here and now.
