Reviews - What do customers think about Memoirs of an Immigrant?
Great read Sep 15, 2008
I purchased this because Theodore shared my great-grandmothers maiden name and was from Settefrati Italy as she was. It was easy to see what it must have been like for many immigrants at the turn of the century. The hardships, the bigotry and the hopes for a better life that they were all in search of.
ITALIAN AMERICAN Jan 4, 2003
The book gives a good view of the lives of those who came to this country in the early part of the 20th century from rural areas of Italy. The editing could have been a little tighter.
Remembering When May 14, 2001
I found this book very interesting. I gave me a different out look on how live was in a small town in Italy at the turn of century. Theodore had a very hard life, part due because he was an Italian immigrate and the other part due to his own stubborn ways. In his youth he fought the "old ways', but as he got older many of his ideas were like those of his parents - the "old ways". It seems he had a very full life and just wanted people to know how things were. It is not the golden tale of a poor immigrate comes over from Italy and makes a fortune. Any one who has older relatives that talk about the old days, should enjoy this book. I felt like I was sitting with my grandfather, telling me about his life. Even the mistakes he made.
