Better Than Most Dec 31, 2006
Ahhh.. yes... The sophomore album of the Singletons.... First of all, you know you are rocking when one of the greatest minds in Gospel music wants to put you on his label; Fred Hammond. Fred has like 30 years in thge ministry/industry between being with Commissioned, doing his own thing and putting out the new singers such as the Singletons and Joann Rosario. Okay, maybe I am a little biased to the group because they go to church across town from my church, and I love their Father/Grandfather Bishop Singleton. With crisp harmony (their range is ridiculous together), awesome instrumentation and lyrics that touch the soul, you will have an anointed addition to your music collection. The title track is off the hook. Not to mention they are nominated for a Stellar award for this album.
Fred Hammond the Singletons are a blood-related group of eight singers Nov 16, 2006
Having been together since 2000 and subsequently discovered and utilized by Fred Hammond the Singletons are a blood-related group of eight singers. `Better Than That' follows their 2002 release `Pour Out Your Holy Spirit' and it is modern US gospel that shows they are talent well worth a listen. Though seasoned gospel-heads are well acquainted with this fare and as such may not find too much here to get over-excited about.
The songs you may revisit most are the opening jumpy `Dance In The Spirit', the `Anointed' vibe of `Created To Worship You', the `Franklin' funky feely title track (by the way Kirk Franklin does guest appear on this album) and the melancholic tonic `I Need You'.
You'll not need a career in forensics to detect Fred Hammond's musical DNA all over this - from typically busy instrumentation to contributory ad-libs that demotes the group to backing vocalists at times. Indeed the Singletons' strongest fluent vocal deliveries arrive by Track 8 and 9 (`Keep Holding On To Me' / `Worthy To Be Praised'). However `Savior Lord & King' was not the best song to round off proceedings.
`Better Than That' is an album borne on wings of strong musical support and clean production, particularly in the backing vocals that sounded surprisingly well processed. It's a variant of a now common format that should hold one's attention for a while. There's enough here to anticipate the Singletons live. Not classic but recommended.
GOD HAS BLESSED THIS FAMILY Jul 6, 2006
I just happened on to The Singletons when they came out with the first CD and I knew it was nothing but God's anointing from start to finish. Not to mention Fred Hammond is my all time #1 favorite and I have been waiting for The Singletons sophomore CD, I must admit the wait was worth it. Buy this CD you wont be sorry Tonya Viera
It don't get no BETTER then this. Jun 19, 2006
This C.D. is excellent, you can tell that the executive producers Fred Hammond and Max Siegel really put alot of work into this album. The vocals on this album are strong and Fred the veteran just gives the album that unique funky praise & worship groove. My favorite tracks are #'s 1,5-11. My favorite being DANCE IN THE SPIRIT, it's a great way to start of your album, it really does make you want to dance in the spirit.
Fred Hammond And The Singletons Buy This CD Ya'll ! May 15, 2006
First let me say congrats to the Singletons on there second CD this one is the gospel bomb it's better than there 1st CD no dought it's off the chain ok.
Second if anyone thinks that this group did this on there own they have got to be from another planet like Neptune or Pluto.
This prodject has Fred Hammonds heart and soul all over it.
Like artist Joann R
Fred he found this group and he made and shaped this group into somthing great.
And so what if he this time around he wants to sing and be more hands on which is somthing he did'nt do the last time around let him I can see an improvement.
And so what if he want's to sing.......I say go for it Fred go for it.
See everybody can't be like the Winans or BeBe and CeCe like when Andre Crouch brought them the Winans to Light Records or when BeBe and CeCe made it onto the PTL Club.
Or like the group Commissiond Fred Hammond and Mike Brooks who started out as a street ministry in Detroit Mich Before the Winans opened the door for them at Light Records.
All of these groups who before had already been singing for years like Vanessa Bell Armstrong.
Bottom line it's a great CD and it's Freds group if he wants to sing on it let him.
