Item description for Surprise Me: A 30-Day Faith Experiment by Terry Esau...
Overview Surprise Me introduces a fresh approach to prayer by looking for God in everyday situations from the significant to the mundane.
"Surprise me, God."
Remember how much you loved surprises as a child? Christmas, birthdays, creating adventures in the backyard-you lived for those times. Life was a lot more fun when spontaneity was embraced, not feared.
When did the rules change? Why do adults seem to lose that sense of adventure? Who says we're supposed to be spiritual control freaks?
Terry Esau draws from his own experiences to illustrate why the element of surprise is central to living out a childlike faith. Again and again in the Bible, God surprises his children with his grace and calling. He wants to do the same in your life.
For the next thirty days, open your heart and pray this simple prayer: "Surprise me, God." No agendas, no plans. Just wait on God with eager anticipation-and watch what happens next!

Metahorically Mezmerizeddf Apr 30, 2008
Terry Esau, judging from his bike rides, lives near Lake Minnetonka where I learned to swim in Wayzata Bay and in later years drank coffee at Carabou. I would love to drink a latte with him on the sidewalk on a summers day and have a nice visit about how my 30 day Surprise has turned out. I am going to buy a couple of copies and give them to some of my friends. His metaphors are sometimes farfetched but funny and relavent.I like his style which is like Anne Lamott ssort of garanteed to make you smile. You have added to Ruby's Cornucopia
Entertaining and thought provoking Jul 23, 2007
I really enjoyed the read, it was different than his other great book "blue collar God, white collar God". Totally different.
Yet I really enjoyed how it brought into light the mundane thoughts and actions and events of everyday moments. Reading it I really started to see God's presence in my own life.
Great read, great gift.

The book provides a blueprint for accelerated spiritual growth. I enjoyed the practical nature of the layout and encouragement to watch for God's activity in everyday circumstances.
Good stuff! Mar 2, 2006
My sister had heard about this guy, Terry Esau, who was going about encouraging people to pray a simple prayer, "Surprise me God", for 30 days and having them journal their experience. It is a simple idea of inviting God into your life everyday, for 30 days, to do whatever He wants with no strings attached and writing down your reflections about what you think God did during the course of your day. Terry's book is simply the journal of the 30-day journey he took.
Terry's writing is very accessible, fun to read and, as far as I can tell, he is a good writer. His reflections proved helpful in showing, by example, how he looked for the activity of God in his day-to-day life. Terry also presents a way of looking at life and the world through the stories of his experience that can teach us different ways to perceive our day-to-day and God's activity in it that is refreshing and hopeful. Reading about Terry's experience has helped to inform my own `Surprise me God' experiment. I appreciate this book, both it's style and substance.
As a side note, this is not a prosperity doctrine book, in case you were wondering, I know that I was.
