More About ted dekker
Ted Dekker (born October 24, 1962) is a New York Times best-selling author of more than twenty novels. He is best known for stories which could be broadly described as suspense thrillers with major twists and unforgettable characters, though he has also made a name for himself among fantasy fans.
Dekker was born to missionaries who lived among the headhunter tribes of Indonesia. Because his parents’ work often included extended periods of time away from their children, Dekker describes his early life in a culture to which he was a stranger as both fascinating and lonely. It is this unique upbringing that forced him to rely on his own imagination to create a world in which he belonged.
After leaving Indonesia, Dekker graduated from a multi-cultural high school and took up permanent residence in the United States to study Philosophy and Religion. Upon earning his Bachelor’s Degree, he entered the corporate world and proceeded to climb the proverbial ladder. But his personal drive left him restless and, after many successful years, he traded corporate life for wide range of entrepreneurial pursuits that included buying and selling businesses, healthcare services, and marketing.
In the early nineties while visiting a friend who had just written a book, Dekker decided to pursue a long held desire to be a novelist. Over the course of two years he wrote two full length novels before starting from scratch and rewriting both. Now fully enamored by the the process and the stories, he realized that storytelling was in his blood and a new obsession to explore truth through story gripped him anew.
He sold his business, moved his family to the mountains of Western Colorado and began writing full-time on his third novel. Two years and three novels later his first novel was published.
Dekker’s novels have sold over 5 million copies worldwide. Two of his novels, Thr3e and House, have been made into movies with more in production. Dekker resides in Austin, Texas with his wife Lee Ann and two of their daughters.

WOW!!! Dekker hit something good here. Oct 11, 2008
I have read several books before by Ted Dekker, and have been a fan since the first book. That first book was "Blink", which doesn't have much of the mind-bending content that Dekker has in some books, but after "Blink" I read the Circle Trilogy which does bend your mind some. Since then however, I have not found anything spectacular by Dekker. "Showdown" and "Saint" were good, but not as good as the Circle Trilogy. When it comes to "Thr3e", though, this book is amazing, possibly his best yet. I will admit that there are some holes and some things that don't make much sense, but overall the story line is well developed and keeps you completely hooked throughout. The description promises many unexpected twists, but I actually didn't find many "twists". There were plenty of small surprises, and lots of intrigue, but overall nothing extremely surprising... until almost the end. Then Dekker doesn't just throw you a curveball, but rather the ball disappears and simultaneously appears in a whole new ballpark, leaving your mind twisting to understand the change. One big difference between this book and Dekker's other mind-bending books is that his other books introduce the mind-bending elements fairly soon on and then slowly works on convincing you, the reader, that it is believeable. This book, however, doesn't introduce it until nearly the end of the book, and thus doesn't spend much time convincing the reader. In fact, I found myself trying to figure out a way that it could actually be another fake meant to distract you again. I guess this is because that twist is actually the solution to the mystery that the whole book is built around, so once the mystery is solved, all that is left is to conclude the scene where Kevin discovers the mystery, then a final scene to follow up on changes slightly after the main incident. At first this sounds like a hurried ending, but actually there is simply nothing more to write that would have much relevancy to the story. I did guess the location of Slater's "home" quite a while before it was revealed, but soon after I guessed it, some details were given that seemed to contradict that idea. Other than that, I was kept guessing right to the end. I have read reviews that others wrote about other books by Dekker saying that that book was so disappointing, they would never read anything else by Dekker. I think that this book would change their minds.
In short, I enjoyed this book very much. Although it has a few flaws, overall it is well written and very interesting. It didn't even take me a full day to read the entire book. I highly recommend this book to anyone, especially to previous Dekker fans.

This was my first Dekker book. I read House, but that doesn't count. My opinions, and I stress these are just opinions:
1. After reading House, I expected the worst in terms of writing, character development, interesting plot - you know, the stuff most people care about. Three is better than House on all fronts.
2. The characters are a bit flat, but a few are likeable enough. I was pleased to find myself caring for them...somewhat.
3. The story is pretty interesting, but it did get a stale in a few parts. Plot driven, to be sure. Three attempts to be a fast-paced page turner, which it generally accomplishes.
4. Overall, not bad. I'll read Dekker again. Was it awesome? No, but it wasn't a waste of time.
I read somewhere (can't remember where) that Dekker is the Christian Stephen King. That's not fair because there is only one Stephen King, and his name is Stephen King. Dekker is definitely his own person, as he should be. It seems like Christians are always in search of spiritual equivalents of anything happening in the secular markets. I understand where they are coming from, but being an imitation results in just that: an imitation. I say let Dekker be Dekker.
Disappointed reader Jul 9, 2008
This is the first book that I have read by this author. Yes the book is suspenseful and yes it holds your attention; however, I was sadly disappointed with the mind game. I won't go into that further so as not to spoil it for any potential reader.
Excellent! Jun 23, 2008
This book will grab you and it won't let go until you finish the last sentence. This was my first Dekker book and I am hooked. It reads pretty fast, which is good because I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. If you love a story that has as many twists and turns as a mountain road, then this is the book for you. The ending will leave you with your jaw on the floor, so be prepared!
