More About Ted Dekker
Ted Dekker (born October 24, 1962) is a New York Times best-selling author of more than twenty novels. He is best known for stories which could be broadly described as suspense thrillers with major twists and unforgettable characters, though he has also made a name for himself among fantasy fans.
Dekker was born to missionaries who lived among the headhunter tribes of Indonesia. Because his parents’ work often included extended periods of time away from their children, Dekker describes his early life in a culture to which he was a stranger as both fascinating and lonely. It is this unique upbringing that forced him to rely on his own imagination to create a world in which he belonged.
After leaving Indonesia, Dekker graduated from a multi-cultural high school and took up permanent residence in the United States to study Philosophy and Religion. Upon earning his Bachelor’s Degree, he entered the corporate world and proceeded to climb the proverbial ladder. But his personal drive left him restless and, after many successful years, he traded corporate life for wide range of entrepreneurial pursuits that included buying and selling businesses, healthcare services, and marketing.
In the early nineties while visiting a friend who had just written a book, Dekker decided to pursue a long held desire to be a novelist. Over the course of two years he wrote two full length novels before starting from scratch and rewriting both. Now fully enamored by the the process and the stories, he realized that storytelling was in his blood and a new obsession to explore truth through story gripped him anew.
He sold his business, moved his family to the mountains of Western Colorado and began writing full-time on his third novel. Two years and three novels later his first novel was published.
Dekker’s novels have sold over 5 million copies worldwide. Two of his novels, Thr3e and House, have been made into movies with more in production. Dekker resides in Austin, Texas with his wife Lee Ann and two of their daughters.

Reviews - What do customers think about Martyr's Song?
The ultimate love story Jan 7, 2008
This book should be read first before Heaven's Wager and When Heaven Weeps since it is referred to often in the rest of the series. Ted Dekker knows how to capture our attention with this story of a priest with a group of women and children, standing their ground against a sadistic soldier during the war. Despite the suffering these Christians endure, we see that all that really matters is our love for Christ and His love for us. It makes us long for our real home as we realize that our trials on earth are but momentary trouble.
just dumb Dec 7, 2007
horrible story where a couple of people who are being brutally murdered try to reason to their killers by saying "please sir, God loves you!" The "true beauty" that the story reveals to the girl would more likely make her angry at wasting her time, so what if God thinks your pretty, Timmy still thinks you look like a dog, and isn't taking you to the dance. Finally, the story is just unbelievable, I cannot see an old woman walking around her house screaming "MARCH!" just because she comes across it in a story. Basically, the book is so obviously self-righteous that it becomes a bad propaganda tool to make us what..love ourselves because soldiers killed people for the fun of it?
The Martyr's Song Sep 4, 2007
This book had me glued to my chair. I read it in two sittings. It always amazes me what Christians in other countries go through while we, in the USA, sit around complaining that there's nothing good on TV.
Not What I Was Expecting Aug 28, 2007
After reading more recent publications by Ted Dekker, all of which I enjoyed immensely, I decided to order some of his older books. This was simply a waste of money. While the concept of this book is thought provoking, the actual reading is less than what one expects from the caliber of a Dekker book. Not to give away any of the plot, but one character in the book has glimpses into the heavenly realm. These glimpses show that heavens occupants have mass giggling sessions and often zoom and jump through the air like Superman. This was my main issue with this book. While I am assured that heaven will be a place of great joy and pleasure, these particular sections of the book came across as juvenile. As with anything, everyone's taste in reading material is different, so if you are truly interested in this book, go ahead and order it. However, take my advice on this and only order ONE book of the Martyr's Song Trilogy to see how you will like it. I ordered all three, and all of them are written in the same style...which is nothing like his current work.
WOW!!! Jun 19, 2007
I think this is my second favorite of Dekker's books, it is amazing I would STRONGLY recommend it. It's not as much of a thriller but it's just an awsome book. I haven't read the whole series yet but I'm going to start on Heaven's Wager next I think. I would recommend any of Ted Dekker's books, especially Showdown.
