More About Ted Dekker
Ted Dekker (born October 24, 1962) is a New York Times best-selling author of more than twenty novels. He is best known for stories which could be broadly described as suspense thrillers with major twists and unforgettable characters, though he has also made a name for himself among fantasy fans.
Dekker was born to missionaries who lived among the headhunter tribes of Indonesia. Because his parents’ work often included extended periods of time away from their children, Dekker describes his early life in a culture to which he was a stranger as both fascinating and lonely. It is this unique upbringing that forced him to rely on his own imagination to create a world in which he belonged.
After leaving Indonesia, Dekker graduated from a multi-cultural high school and took up permanent residence in the United States to study Philosophy and Religion. Upon earning his Bachelor’s Degree, he entered the corporate world and proceeded to climb the proverbial ladder. But his personal drive left him restless and, after many successful years, he traded corporate life for wide range of entrepreneurial pursuits that included buying and selling businesses, healthcare services, and marketing.
In the early nineties while visiting a friend who had just written a book, Dekker decided to pursue a long held desire to be a novelist. Over the course of two years he wrote two full length novels before starting from scratch and rewriting both. Now fully enamored by the the process and the stories, he realized that storytelling was in his blood and a new obsession to explore truth through story gripped him anew.
He sold his business, moved his family to the mountains of Western Colorado and began writing full-time on his third novel. Two years and three novels later his first novel was published.
Dekker’s novels have sold over 5 million copies worldwide. Two of his novels, Thr3e and House, have been made into movies with more in production. Dekker resides in Austin, Texas with his wife Lee Ann and two of their daughters.

I originally purchased the graphic version for my son. Then I read it because it sounded interesting. After that I found out that it was based on a novel and got it next. Kind of the expensive way to get a book, but hey it was still worth it. I have read a lot of novels, and the unique story line and quality of writing makes this one a must for me. Since then I have read the whole trilogy and recommend it.

Close to Denver, Colorado. Around midnight. Thomas Hunter strolls from the Java Hut. Suddenly, a hole appears inches from his head. Brick fragments trickle out. Another, with a soft thunk! His adrenaline kicks in as he spots the gunmen. He makes a run for it. Welcome to the world of Thomas Hunter, a simple 25 year old blue belt with a night shift at the Java Hut. But when he gets shot in a gunfight, he passes out and his world fades... and his life is changed forever. He awakens in a world where the trees emit amber and emerald glows, where white lions roam, and where evil is contained in the other side. Now Thomas must prepare for the demise of two worlds. This fantasy world is the work of Ted Dekker. By combining a chilling story, captivating characters, and amazing explosions, gunfights, and fistfights, Dekker has made the first amazing book in the Circle trilogy. A masterpiece. The story keeps you on the edge of your seat and makes you want to stay up late to find out what happens next. While it is more downtime than not, Dekker still seems to keep you interested. Watch as Ted Dekker masterfully immerses you into Thomas's predicament. A must read for any thriller/fantasy fan.
Amazing! May 9, 2008
This was incredible! I couldn't put it down! The entire trilogy was like that for me but this was my first and it gripped me entirely. It was recommended to me by a bookseller and she was right on the money. I ended up reading it so quickly I had to run to buy the next two. I have now bought almost everything Ted Dekker has written and I have yet to find one of his books that I didn't tear through.
This begins the epic adventure of Thomas Hunter living and dreaming in two realities. Between Colorado and what ends up being Other Earth, as it comes to be known in the follow up series "The Lost Books", one pleasant, unassuming young man becomes the savior in both planes. Pulse-spiking adventure, love, pain, angst - all part of "Black" and the trilogy!
Don't just buy this one because you'll be running out to get the next two - buy them all at once!

Love this trilogy and this book is a great start. Dekker is as good as Frank Perreti in the Christian fiction genre. Love the buildup and the situations in this story is gripping, sometimes confusing, but explained in due time later. Great pacing and great storyline. Makes you want the next book now so you can find out what happens next.
BAD Narrator BUT WORTH the TIME May 6, 2008
The Narrator for Black is awful, never giving a breath between characters. It's so hard to know who is talking. There are few inflections and few voice changes for characters. He does get better as the book goes along, though. However, the writing is so good, that it is definitely worth the time to listen through it. The book itself starts out slow and plods along in some areas, but you'll never be able to get to "Red" if you don't get through this one. I just wish they would do the audio over with Recorded Books, instead of Oasis.
