Publishers Description
As the grandson of Billy and Ruth Bell Graham, Tullian Tchividjian grew up hearing the Christian faith preached to millions. Yet he struggled to come to faith personally. His first book, " Do I Know God? "captures the sincerity and intensity of his own spiritual quest, and shows the way for a new generation of seekers.
Combining careful thinking, warm personal story, and an exceptional grounding in biblical truths, Tullian delivers trustworthy answers to the questions you've been asking:
-Is it really possible to know God?
-Is being "spiritual" or "religious" the same thing as having a relationship with God?
-What is the relationship between saving faith and good works?
-How does believing God's promises assure me of salvation?
-How do my feelings for God affect my relationship with him?
-How can I trust that God is present when I feel only his absence?
-Can a relationship with God assure me of a future with him in eternity?

"Do I Know God? "was written with a wide range of readers in mind: those outside the Christian faith, newer Christ followers who feel confused about their relationship with God, and long-time Christians who have never gotten clarity on key questions like eternal security and assurance of salvation, faith and works.
Tullian shows readers how to discover a genuine, vibrant and enduring relationship with God. And it all begins with the vital question: "Do I Know God?
"

Reviews - What do customers think about Do I Know God??

biblical, engaging primer on assurance of salvation  Jun 12, 2008
The Apostle John wrote his first epistle to Christians ("you who believe in the name of the Son of God"). And why did John write? "That you may know that you have eternal life" (I John 5:13). While God delights to grant assurance of salvation to His children, we're also told that assurance is a blessing that each Christian is to earnestly seek (II Peter 1:10). And in thinking about assurance of salvation we must inevitably consider questions like:

Is certainty possible in this area? What does it mean to truly know God? Is it possible to be "sure" I know God, and yet be deceived? How does being saved by grace relate to doing good works?

What I found particularly helpful about Do I Know God? by Tullian Tchividjian (pastor of New City Presbyterian Church in south Florida) is that it powerfully addresses these questions in an engaging, relational tone (including apt illustrations from Tchividjian's own life) while also explaining the gospel. All in a book that's less than 200 pages long.

For example, Tchividjian walks us through his own conversion at the age of 19 and then later devotes a chapter to explaining the relationship between saving faith and good works. He helps the reader understand the crucial difference between working for salvation (trying to earn God's favor by right living) and working out salvation (progressively, increasingly obeying God through faith as the necessary and inevitable outworking of having had our hearts transformed such that we've embraced Jesus Christ as our Savior, Lord, and Treasure). Consequently, it is the sort of book that is simultaneously useful for Christians and those still exploring the faith. In addressing assurance, Tchividjian does a good job balancing the importance of belief in God's promises, internal evidence of salvation (affections for God), and external evidence (increasing obedience, i.e., progressive sanctification). He also explains how to maintain assurance when God seems most absent.

In short, I commend this book, particularly to younger Christians or those who are investigating Christianity.

Great read  May 13, 2008
This was a great read. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but Tullian laid out everything out clearly and let the reader into some of his life experiences which evoked empathy. Everyone is fallible. A good book, especially for a new believer.

Disappointed  May 4, 2008
I really expected a lot more from this book. I know of the author's background and I thought that he would have tied his personal experiences into it more. It is a slow read - I haven't been able to pick it up again...needless to say, it remains half finished.

Clear, reader-friendly, biblically-sound...  Apr 14, 2008
This young pastor and author--who happens to be the grandson of Billy Graham--has written a clear, reader-friendly and biblically sound discussion of how you can have the assurance of your salvation. Based solidly on God's Word, the book is laced with absorbing true-life anecdotes and vital quotes from leading theologians and thinkers. Tullian Tchividjian has a rare gift--maybe it's hereditary?--of being able to communicate and connect with his readers while being confidently grounded and pleasantly personable at the same time. I have no doubt we'll be hearing more from him.

Recommended read  Jan 8, 2008
This book was written by a grandson of Billy Graham. I felt it was worth reading. It is informative and an enjoyable read, however, I feel it comes on in a strong manner but sort of fizzles out as far as keeping your attention to the end. It certainly covers very important content that needs to be taught. It answered questions for me that have plagued me from the beginning of my Christian walk.

It is a small book, you can finish it quickly. Worth buying.
