Reviews - What do customers think about Expecting?
Perfect gift for expecting mother Dec 30, 2009
No, I'm not expecting, but I was honored when Marla offered me a chance to read and review her latest book, "Expecting". This book is unlike her other books (which I would highly recommend you also check out), and it is in a class of its own. "Expecting" is considered a gift book, and it would be a great gift for any expectant mother.
Each week in a pregnancy, new growth and development take place. As a new mother (whether this is your first pregnancy or not), the growth and development of your baby has a special place in your heart and mind. I remember reading up weekly on how my baby was growing - how big she was, what body parts were developing, if she could hear me, etc - on a weekly (if not more than that) basis. The little things are what become most precious to an expecting mother.
This book, "Expecting", focuses on the growth and development of the baby each week during the pregnancy. Marla shares a prayer for each week for your baby, gives you a glimpse of how the baby is growing and developing that week, and shares inspirational thoughts with you to challenge you as you learn to love this new child. Each week also has a page to journal any thoughts or prayers you have for your child that week.
Marla has been given the opportunity to share this book with pregnancy crisis centers across America and around the world through the gifts of many of her readers. I pray that God will use this book to reach out to those women who are hurting and seeking to end their pregnancies, to show them the miracle that this baby is, and to bring them to Himself.
What a great gift idea for a new mom? Nov 11, 2009
I just gave this away on Christian Momlogic. I thought it was a perfect gift for a new mom, but I have to say that I was fascinated by the book. It's a unique idea, but one that addresses the questions and concerns, and comfort of a mom. It shows the development of your baby at each week, sharing what is happening inside of you, and with your child's growth. It gently prays with a mom and gives her an opportunity to journal her feelings. It's a beautiful hardback book that is a great gift for any expecting mother.
Pregnancy Devotional Jul 16, 2009
As I close the cover of this little book I have a few tears in my eyes. I could easily blame it on the pregnancy hormones, but that would only be half true. The idea of imagining that it is really only days if not weeks that I will be able to meet my little girl is unreal. What is funny to me is the part that I read at the last chapter that really gave me tears was the mention that as the mother I will not be the only one with tears, but Daddy will have them too. *grin* I never much think of my husband crying, or having tears run down his cheeks. But it was he that had tears of joy at our wedding and I was too astonished to have any myself. I just could not help but smile at him. How appropriate is it, that the idea of my first child being born reminds me wedding day. *sigh*
Taviano really has a way with prayer and words through out this little devotional and I look forward to looking into some of her other books such as Changing Your World One Diaper at a Time A Reflective Journey Through Your Child's First Years. This book goes for 40 weeks to follow each week of pregnancy with tips and prayers.
Each week chapter consists of:
* a prayer for your child's body and soul * a devotional message * a carefully selected scripture * an inspirational quote * a "body and soul" reflection for mom * a space for you to journal your own thoughts and prayers.
Without a doubt I would recommend this to every Mama who is expecting. It is a fabulous devotional for her own growth and would make a great gift. My only qualm was that I did not get a copy of it until after I was 20 weeks pregnant, I wish I had started earlier, but I still enjoyed going back and catching up where I missed.
Amazing gift for the mother-to-be! Jun 27, 2009
This book is very personal and similar to a daily devotional/journal....it doesn't take long to read and jot a few things down. It makes you think about and pray over aspects of the blessed baby that you have never thought of. The book gives developmental information every step of the way...so, you are learning, praying, and pondering. If received later in the pregnancy, the mom-to-be can go backwards also but it is a great gift to give in the early stages of her pregnancy.
A Must Have for Pregnancy Apr 6, 2009
Expecting: Praying for Your Child's Development - Body and Soul by Marla Taviano is truly a WONDERFUL book! This little book is power-packed and full of wisdom. It goes through pregnancy week by week, for all forty weeks, with a snippet of mommy's and baby's development for that week. It also includes a quote and Scripture verse pertinent for that week, and a prayer for the baby. Each week, or chapter, covers a specific topic, from the release of the egg, to conception, to hands, gender, vocal cords, hearing, organs, bone marrow, face, etc. At the end of each chapter there is a page for writing your thoughts, memories, reflections, verses you like, etc.
Expecting is a must have book for any pregnant woman, or any woman who is trying to conceive. In fact, it would be the perfect pregnancy gift, but don't wait until the shower, because you wouldn't want her to miss all of the prayers and scriptures from the earlier weeks. I absolutely love this book! I only wish it would have been available when I was expecting my little one!
