Item description for We Wait You by Taryn R. Hutchison...
Overview We wait you. Why did you take so long?" -Taryn Hutchison was asked this poignant question after her lecture on democracy to a class in Bucharest, Romania. Communism had just fallen. "We waited 45 years for the Americans to come and set us free. We used to say that even if you were coming in a wheelbarrow, you should be here by now." -The Americans had come at last, but it was to offer a different kind of freedom-freedom that lasts forever. Inspiring and with humorous moments, We Wait You: Waiting on God in Eastern Europe is an uplifting story of hearts transformed as political systems are rebuilt. Unlike any missionary story you've read before, it is told by a regular person attempting to manage real life-mud and all-in a foreign culture while struggling to wait on God. History will come alive as you journey with Taryn through Romania, Hungary, Albania, and Russia during the decade after the Berlin wall came down. You will learn to trust God to provide everything you need in order to do whatever He calls you to do, wherever that may be. Questions for reflection or discussion are included at the end of each chapter. As the twentieth anniversary of the 1989 revolutions approaches, relive the unforgettable drama of the historic events that changed Eastern Europe-against all hope.

More About Taryn R. Hutchison
I hail from a town called Harmony with a booming population of 75 people, three million chickens, several dogs, and my two imaginary friends. After I graduated from Salisbury University (in my home state of Maryland) with an Art degree, my traveling lifestyle began. I have lived all over the States and even two other countries (Romania and Hungary). I've visited all 50 states, lots of countries, and 6 continents. I'm holding at 6 continents - with no desire to add Antarctica to the mix. I love people, art, story, and travel. I guess my ideal day involves swapping stories with a friend at a sunny café outside an art gallery in an exotic foreign locale, while drinking a frothy latte.
After 21 years as a missionary with Campus Crusade, I fulfilled my childhood storytelling dream and wrote my debut book, called "We Wait You: Waiting on God in Eastern Europe." I've also published short stories in two Chicken Soup books, one Cup of Comfort book, over 30 articles, and had my book translated into Romanian. My husband and I have recently relocated from the bustling San Francisco Bay area to a sleepy town in North Carolina. I've come full circle, minus the imaginary friends, that is.

Disarmingly honest, hilarious and inviting Nov 13, 2008
As a full-blooded Eastern European follower of the Messiah I admit a healthy dose of skepticism upon hearing about this book. My lifelong reading passion has taught me that our best intentions towards historical objectivity seem to be insufficient to prevent cultural toe-stepping. The stereotyped piety of many a Christian's writings has left me both bored spitless and with the nagging sense that Christians, and especially missionaries are spiritual Supermen, a peculiar breed that doesn't share the common gene-pool with the rest of humanity. So I braced for both the cultural and spiritual assault and plunged into reading. Page by page, layer by layer, I was disarmed, thawed and drawn into this beautifully transparent, hilarious story, re-living many of the cathartic moments which marked the continent's turbulent decade, laughing and crying with this unlikely heroine and falling deeper in love with her and this crazy God whom she so faithfully, wholeheartedly trusts. Countless times I had to stop mid-chapter and interrupt my husband in whatever he was doing to read aloud the portions from the book. I just couldn't keep it to myself. What a wild ride on the train of personal and multi-national history woven together by the Hand of Love we know and experience so little of. Thank you, Taryn. We wait you next book :-).
A MUST READ Nov 4, 2008

Great read! Oct 24, 2008
We Wait You is a fast and fun read. I was drawn into the adventure of being a missionary in post communist Eastern Europe by Taryn Hutchison's conversational writing style. You feel like you are sitting in the livingroom over a cup of hot tea while she shares with you how God worked in and through her life. And, you aren't just a spectator. Taryn challenges you to look for the threads of God's handiwork in your own life as well. Hey, it's not a bad way to learn a little East European history as well. We Wait You will definitely find its way into the birthday bags and Christmas stockings of some of my friends and family!
great crossover book; history and faith Oct 24, 2008
I have alwys been fascinated with WWII and the aftermath of what happened to Europe. The book "We Wait You" is fascinating on several levels as it takes place in a significant time in Eastern Europe when the grip of totalitarianism is finally being loosened or broken. The small freedoms the people find hard to digest is revealing as it takes more than a few days to change a mind-set for both civil and religious freedom. The author writes in a very easy to read conversational style and you feel you are listening to history unfold.
On a spiritual level I was deeply moved at the deep spiritual connection this group of Christians had with not only each other but how comfortable they were in sharing the gospel with people who had never heard it and were so ready to hear about God's love and Christ's sacrifice for us all. You could tell the hearts of the Eastern Europeans had been primed by the Holy Spirit and the "team" had also been primed and given boldness by the same Spirit. I got the book on a Sunday morning and read half on Sunday afternoon and the other half the next day. It is a book that I will keep and highly recommend to others
I couldn't put it down Sep 20, 2008
I read We Wait You all at one sitting. I laughed and cried as Taryn told the story of deciding to move to Eastern Europe, fearing yet anticipating her new and unfamiliar life, and facing the challenges of being a single woman dependent on the Lord for all her needs, from the trivial to the profound. I know many of the Romanian believers she mentioned, and I understand why they enriched Taryn's life so deeply. This book gives a true picture of the challenges and rewards of modern missionary life. I look forward to giving copies as gifts.
