Reviews - What do customers think about Raising Stephen: One Day at a Time?

Good Read  Jan 27, 2009
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It has given me great insight to a great family and also what it is like to live as a Christian with a Christian perspective with a child with BPD. Thanks Tami for your transparency and your willingness to share!

Raising Stephen One Day at a Time  Dec 30, 2008
I may be prejudice, but I loved this book. It helped me understand many things (including what the family has gone through). I am Stephen's great aunt. As a small child, no one knew what ailed this kid. He just seemed like a "bad little boy". When Stephen was about 5, they came to my house. Stephen and his dad always went to the basement to play ping pong. Stephen must have lost one time, because that explained why he broke all the rungs out of the railing to the basement. The heartache this family suffered until they finally diagnosed him correctly...and even then, the pain continued. I am so glad Tami wrote this book, if for no other reason than to inform everyone of the "real story" and to give encouragement to others to keep loving someone no matter what. Besides being the wonderful Christian woman she has become, she has the biggest heart of anyone I know. It takes someone like her to raise and continue to love a Stephen. He is blessed to have her.

A fly on the wall...answers to all our questions  Dec 25, 2008
This book answers your questions of what it is like to experience raising a child diagnosed with bipolar disorder. It shares each mistake as well as every victory. Bathed in love, it tenderly explores the heart and soul of both the child and parents. A page turner from cover to cover, this book will not be put down untill it is finished. So cuddle up with this book and have a tissue in hand. I recommend it to all!

Excellent book on raising a bipolar child!!!  Dec 22, 2008
This is an exceptional book about raising a bipolar child or teen. An easy-to-read aid for all parents raising a bipolar child. This book will definitely pull at the heart strings and seeing the love of parents who would do anything attempting to help their son with Bipolar. I am so glad that this book became available when it did. Thanks.

Painful!  Oct 28, 2008
I hate to give a poor review, but I felt so strongly about this book that I need to say something. I'm not sure what others found "inspiring" about it, but as a mother of a bipolar son(who has also struggled with his anger and aggression) I found this book to be hurtful. I don't understand how a mother could, not only air her child's dirty laundry out for the world to see, but in doing so try to make a profit off of it. This book was not educational, nor does it give insight into how to handle a child with this disorder. It simply tells the negative stories of her son, that she supposedly loves, including six pages of bulleted details by age of how he has costed his parents time and money.

On top of all of that, the author jumps around incessantly and has a very poor writing style. There are much better books out there about raising children with bipolar disorder and I would highly any of them over this one.

Again, I'm sorry to give such a harsh review, but I could not understand where the positive ones came from.
