Reviews - What do customers think about Kanna Volume 1 (Kanna)?
Pleasant Surprise Nov 29, 2007
I found this manga by reading a couple of chapters online and boy I wasn't expecting it to be this good. This manga is filled with lots of humorous moments as well as funny scenes (though there are some serious moments hence the reason for the rating to be 16+).
Synopsis: Sagaki is a college student who is living a normal life until one day he starts dreaming about a little girl. One day after this dream he wakes up to find that there is actually a little girl lying next to him who happens to be Kanna. Kanna is a bit unusual as she cannot talk but can understand everything that is said to her. Sagaki is given the task to take care of Kanna and is later revealed by a close friend of Sagaki that Kanna is their daughter and that Sagaki needs to protect her from evil. The series focuses on Sagaki as he and Kanna live together to fight off evil beings and for Sagaki to get accustomed to his new role as a guardian/parent for Kanna.
As I stated earlier, I didn't expect much out of Kanna but now that I have completely read the first volume, I simply cannot wait for the next volume to be released. I enjoy the story between Kanna and Sagaki as both are trying to understand each other better. In addition, there are romantic links between Sagaki and Nami (a friend and co-worker who is unable to express her feelings), Nami's sister Rika (who also has a problem expressing her feelings but is more open to spending time with Sagaki) and one of Sagaki's childhood friend in the past (who happens to be Kanna's mother). There are many funny moments and that is one of the reasons why I loved reading this manga. My only gripe is with the actual plot where it starts out confusing and some things need to be explained in order to understand the situation (my only assumption is it will be explained in future volumes).
In conclusion, I highly recommend this manga to anyone who enjoys action, comedy and supernatural. The art is done very nicely and it is written fairly well. You won't be disappointed.
Note: Volume 2 is being sold at gocomi.com (the publisher's official site) Once I get the volume, I will be doing the review for that volume as well.
