Item description for Hymns: Light Jazz Style-Piano by Teresa Wilhelmi...
Overview It is always an honor for me to be able to arrange wonderful old hymns. To me the words and melodies are powerful. They reach deep into my soul and paint pictures. It is an added pleasure for me to compose the interludes that are included between most of the hymns which may be used to create medleys. (You could conceivably play through this book from start to finish and all of the songs would connect!) I encourage you to pencil in whatever you want to add or change in my work, including dynamics. I want you to make the pieces your own. Don't be discouraged if the chord progressions seem difficult. If you just go over them enough times they will become natural to you. I use polychords a lot. It may help to pencil in the part of the chord you recognize so you don't have to keep rethinking it (Then you can concentrate on the less familiar part.) I hope you will use this book as a springboard for your own creativity. Most of all...just have fun! -From the Foreword by Teresa Wilhelmi

Reviews - What do customers think about Hymns: Light Jazz Style-Piano?

This is a good book, but is on the higher end of intermediate level ~ almost to the point of accomplished. This is not a book you want to sit down with an hour or two before the service. A good pianist with a lot of time to practice could make this sound fabulous. I would not consider this "light" but medium to advanced jazz.
