Item description for The Relational Progression by T. Dave Matsuo...
Overview A Relational Theology of Discipleship If we are truly following the Jesus of Scripture, our discipleship should engage us further and involve us deeper than the prevailing perceptions and practices of discipleship. Unlike other disciples in the Mediterranean world of Jesus' earthly life, his disciples are not called to follow a way of life or set of teachings but, more importantly, to follow the Person in deep relationship on his terms. This study formulates the depths of this relationship and the breadth of where Jesus takes those who follow his Person in this relationship. In the process, it challenges many of our assumptions about God, ourselves, discipleship, and how we engage in relationships and practice church. By examining the Gospel narratives of Jesus' life, this study "puts the pieces together" of God's self-disclosure to formulate a thoroughly relational theology of God's desires, purpose, and call to us in the relational progression to be the family of God, thus also involving a distinct ecclesiology. This necessitates exposing those reductionist influences and substitutes which not only redefine discipleship but also diminish or minimalize the persons involved.
