At times, he has taught at Dartmouth, Yale, Wesleyan, Vermont, and Middlebury colleges. He has published ten poetry books, and many of his stories, essays, poems, and criticisms have appeared in the "New Yorker", "Sports Illustrated", the "New York Times", the "Atlantic", the "New Republic", and other publications.

Sydney Lea currently resides in Newbury, in the state of Vermont. Sydney Lea was born in 1942.
