This is a fairly good book, you have about everything you could want involved in it. It is a modern day book with a few thing thrown in from the 1800s. There are politicitions, newspaper people, scuba divers, killers, gold, robberies. you name it they are involved in this book. I fairly well guessed who done it about half way through the book but was not sure. It was who I thought it was that was doing the killings. If you like politicitions then you will love it, the authors did a good job.
Not that great... Nov 1, 2007
This is the third book in a series that began with The Chase. While The Chase was fairly cheesy and unrealistic, it was still an enjoyable quick read; but I wish they had not turned it into a series. In the two books that followed, the main character (Jill) became very flaky and annoying. Its been awhile since I read them both, but I'll try to give you the details I remember. Despite the fact that she's practically engaged at the end of the first book after finding out the man she's in love with is an FBI agent, in the second book she's not sure if she wants to marry him because he went on an undercover assignment and didn't tell her what was going on when he had to fake his death. Granted, this would make me angry too, but I was more irritated by the fact that she soon after developed a relationship with a sleazy senator while supposedly mourning her dead fiance. Then when she found out her fiance was still alive, she was mad at him and wasn't sure which of the men to continue a relationship with. In the third book she was just as fickle and irritating, and unable to decide if she really wants to marry her former fiance or not. Yet she had no problem using her relationship to get information on a case he was working to use in her newspaper. Personally, if I were her fiance I'd have given up on her and found someone who would respect the fact that federal agents sometimes have to go undercover and keep secrets that are a matter of national security! They finally did marry in the end, but it still wasn't worth reading the entire book for.

Before reading this book, you should know that there is a first book by the title "The Chase". I read The Chase and didn't want to put it down. It kept me guessing. I'm ready for book 2 now!

The third chapter in the Jill Lewis Trilogy continues with fine writing and a great story. This latest story can easily be read and enjoyed even if you haven't read the first two, which of course you really should as each has exciting stand alone plots. The third story takes place in a typical small midwestern town with interesting characters and locations, many places almost sound familiar. The Candidate is good reading, Susan and Robin did another great job.
